Spirit Airlines

This airline looks pretty sketchy after reading reviews.
They have decent prices, And the best flights for my destination.
But apparently what they don’t tell you is they charge for a boarding pass, a carry-on, seat selection and for any drinks or snacks.
Plus, they have the highest rate of cancellations and late arrivals.

The only reason I’m considering them is they are the the only airline that has a direct flight from Boise to Vegas.
Most of the flights all other airlines offer have so many stops and layovers that it would be quicker to drive than to fly.

So I am just checking here to see if anyone has had some experience with them, good or bad.

You should be able to fly from Boise to Vegas without a drink and snacks. What is that, Like an hour fifteen tops? If not, Bring your own.

I've flown Spirit and they literally got me to my destination. No frills but it was fairly inexpensive and on time. That's good enough for me. Also, I don't remember having to pay for a boarding pass or carry on.

Allegiant Flys from Boise to Vegas nonstop. I put my wife on an allegiant flight and she's not much of a fan. Probably better than spirit.

We used allegiant a few months back, no frills but for $260 each round trip to Nashville, I can do without the 4 bit bag of peanuts.

I have flown a bit....every company charges for checked baggage except Southwest. They are in the business of getting you every way they can. Spirit is probably going to have smaller seats than say Delta or United but, as mentioned before, its a short flight and if it's nonstop, you are paying for that convenience. Suck it up and pay it! Don't over think it or you'll waste lots of time trying to save $30. Take it from someone who has been there.

Also...don't use taxis in Vegas...download the Uber app and use that. The secret is to log on and type in your destination....see what is available. Shut down the app and go back in in 5 minutes, rates will be cheaper than the first time checking....that happens 90% of the time.

Keep in mind that Spirit usually just has one flight to a destination per day and if t doesn’t fly then you don’t fly that day. But my son has taken a lot of cheap spirit flights and that’s the worst one he has had.

I January our family was flying from Charleston,WV to Aruba. Charleston to Chicago, Chicago to Aruba. Flight from Charleston was canceled a day ahead for weather they said which was a lie because all the other airlines flew. They wanted to put us on a flight two days later. Would’ve los two days of a six day vacation. We drove three hours to Columbus Ohio and spent the night. Rented a car to take to Columbus and left our car n Charleston to come back to.

Got to the gate in Columbus and flight was delayed because they didn’t have a flight attendant. One shows up about 45 minutes later. We had a two hour layover in Chicago s that didn’t hurt us. But would have if the layover had been shorter.

Flying in 2019 and 2024 isn’t the same ball game.

This was United.

Yeah, it looks that way.

During the pandemic airlines gave early retirement to pilots, flight attendants and maintenance personnel. Now they don’t have any people or spare planes.

Another story. In 2012 I was flying home from a British Columbia moose hunt. Last leg was Chicago to Charleston WV. I had been gone 13 days and was looking forward to getting home. Had spent one night in an airport and I was wore out. We got within almost sight of Charleston airport and pilot says there is something wrong with plane and we have to go back to Chicago. I’m not sure what was wrong with plane but we came n hot. If we had tried to land in Charleston we wouldn’t have got stopped on that short runway.

They had a spare plane and within an hour the had transferred our luggage and we boarded and headed home. You won’t see hat happening today. There isn’t any spare plane.

Every airline has delayed flights. It has gotten to be a lucky day when we board, take off and land at the scheduled time.

My girlfriend and I were flying somewhere when Covid was in full swing.
The only place you could take your mask off in the airport was bars and restaurants,
Needless to say, it was pretty tough to find a spot, but we found one in a bar. I had a Coke and my girlfriend had some kind of drink. They charged us $56..
That pissed me off so much that I haven’t spent one single penny in an Airport since.

Figured it'd cost me $60 for a cheapass bottle of champagne but they told me they can't sell it by the bottle. They got us for $120 that day. When the kids are grown, you can afford to do that type of thing. LOL

The Missoula airport isn’t that bad (not that great though). There’s only 1 bar. I had a beer for $8. Damn good Montana IPA.

And Jet Blue was trying to buy Spirit until Biden blocked it.

Jet Blue and Spirit probably have less experienced pilots.

But he worst flights are casino junket charter flights. Every time they land they hit so hard you think the land g gear is going to break off. I think the pilots are the ones that got fired from American and Delta.
