Suggestions? "Do it Yourself" Alaska

Long story short is I ended up with a $1,200 airline credit that has to be used by June 11th 2009. Always wanted to hunt Alaska so this would take care of my travel. The problem is I'm on a shoestring budget after getting there.

Thought about a ?do it yourself? black bear or caribou hunt. Does any one have any experience or information to pass a long? Would sure appreciate some help. I could take off on a short notice hunt this fall if possible.

Not realy a hunting deal but why not think about a great fishing trip? salmon and Halibut? there are some spring Black bear hunts, but early spring I would be thinking salmon fishing...

you could fly into Anchorage then hop over to Kodiak and hunt blacktail deer using the Best western hotel as your base. could fish/hunt and have a good time for not a ton of money......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Can you hunt bear in Alaska w/o a guide if you are not a resident? Something I would check out for sure before making plans. If not - good luck!
