Unit 38 Whitetail

I will be hunting elk next October in 38, and my son in law wants to hunt Whitetail. I under stand you have to apply for a Region- Y tag in January. What is the quality of the bucks in the unit, and are most of the bucks on private, or is public a possibility. Thankyou.

The deadline for deer applications is the end of May. And in that area, yes most whitetails are on private. He'd probably want to be hunting mule deer if he was with you in elk area 38, if you're hunting elk on public land.

Tell your son in law to mind his own business and not ruin a good elk tag looking for a 110" whitetail. Haha. No really though that would be a tough mix. Not much public land down where the whitetails live below 38.
