Unit 76 Bull

I am a first time Elk hunter and 25 minutes into opening morning this Bull stepped out of the timber following a cow. I couldn't pass him up. DIY hunt.

Thanks, that's the draw the cow was walking down to. The road is maybe 300 yards downhill.

That's a good looking bull, hunted 76 twice archery and I would have dropped a string a that bull every day. Probably one of the most scenic places I have ever elk hunted, miss that country. Congrats

As far as the antlers, one thing I noticed (my opinion) is that on the really wet years seems like on average bucks/bulls antlers are darker. Reason is that there is more pitch/moisture in the trees when they rub thus getting darker racks.
Maybe it is coincidence, maybe not.

That very well might have something to do with it Mtnman. I wondered if maybe rubbing their antlers in the burn area might have given them a darker tint ?
