What an unreal hunt for a friend of mine this fall. She worked hard all year getting ready for this hunt, then the unexpected happened. A week before the hunt she came down with Covid. We didn’t know how much or if she would even be able to hunt. She was not feeling well at all. The plan was to horse back into an area we knew held plenty of bulls for her to pick out. Well the night before the opener it snowed 6” and the roads would not allow us to trailer the horses. Time to adapt. We tried to locate bulls in other areas. The problem was, the spike hunters had moved in and seemed to be everywhere. It was tough to find a herd to hunt that wasn’t on a dead run from other hunters. We finally made it happen later during the week when this bull was located. Spotted out feeding mid day on one of the thickest, steepest, nastiest mountain sides you can imagine. She made a great shot and put the bull down. After 7 hours of a nightmare pack out, the bull was back to camp and the celebration began. If not for a couple broken points, this bull would be a true 7x8.
