A good thing or not? I guess it depends on whether you view it simply as an increased opportunity to hunt deer or as a reduction in efforts to increase populations and/or quality (trophy bucks) in other units in Utah.
And it depends on how (and when) these permits are issued. General Public? Limited Entry? Auctions? Depredation? Youth? All Archery? All Rifle? Winter season? During rut?
Also, whether or not it's "too expensive" also depends on your agenda and your financial involvement. If you're the one having to pay for it and you determine the results are not worth the costs, then that's different if someone else is paying the costs and you believe that the results are worth the costs, whatever they are.
It appears that this is the first time the DWR has made a statement about the worth of deer transplants. It's about time!
