Bigcountry,
I hunted the area that you're talking about once, a couple of seasons ago. My experience, unfortunately, wasn't a positive one. The best way to describe the trip was "CROWDED". Not just by hunters (although there were a few of them also), but it looked like half of the Humboldt State hippies were there too. Every where we went they were there, camping, backpacking, singing, smoking pot, etc. My partner and I got used to the glares that we were getting after a couple of days, but no matter where we went, we couldn't get away from them. After a couple of days, I did talk to one smelly hippie guy, who told me that his group purposely goes in prior to September, because they hate seeing hunters with guns chasing deer. He was less than happy to hear that hunters with a stick and string could chase deer in August as well. He wasn't a jerk, but was probably just as dissapointed about seeing men dressed in camo, as I was seeing dreadlocks and bongo drums!
I don't mind sharing public lands with people, but after hiking for 7+ miles I expected to see more game than people. This wasn't the case.
Sorry that this story is such a downer, but that was the experience that I had.
Good Luck
