Colorado, Unit 55

Hi, I was contacted this past weekend from a landowner who asked if I would be interested in purchasing a permit for Unit 55, approx. dates Oct 23-31st. He gave me a couple days so I could do some research, make some calls, etc. I figured what better place to start than here? If I were to hunt GMU #55 what could I expect during that time of year? Pre-rut activities, terrain, etc? Colorado's 2004 Reg's reflect a very high success rate; what class of bucks are being harvested out of that particular unit?

I'm not looking for anyone's honey holes or GPS coordinates; any stories from individuals who have hunted there in the past, or any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do a search on this forum for unit 55. That is one of the hottest units in Colorado right now. The land owner tags are going for quite a bit right now....

I am curious as to why a landowner called you? Is he hard up for money? Stats say 2 points for 2nd rifle and 4 points points for 3rd rifle. I would do more research on the landowner. But then again if you have money to burn.... go for it. Jeff

Those stats may have been correct for last year but since the guys that bought the auction tags for colorado killed a couple of monsters the past two years the points to draw this unit went up. land owners are probably thinking they can bring the kind of money the auction tag brought I doubt it but anything is worth the tag. The picture of last years buck is here on the sight it was taken in 54 I believe. Look for Leon's buck.

Ryan - Thanks. Lot's of good info on that search, it gives me a better idea of some past history of #55.

Cohntr6; like 98% of everyone else on this sight I don't just have money to burn. The part of the world I live in isnt full of muleys & the thought of chasing them around this fall is pretty exciting. I wasnt seeking this tag, like I mentioned I was called. Two of my buddies went down there last year & both were lucky enough to harvest two great bucks; one archery & one riffle season. Unfortunatly for them they are not able to go back down so the opportunity was passed along to me. It's pretty tough trying to get a good feel of a unit, especially if you havent hunted it before...not to mention live in a totally different state. Good luck to everyone this upcoming fall!
