I've caught a mule deer episode a couple of times this season where they are bowhunting in august. Don takes a nice typical 4 point at 11 yards. It looks a lot like southern Utah or the Kiabab area. Anyone know were this hunt takes place? The deer sure seem tame?

I seen the same show. I'll agree that the deer looked tame. Its like they new they was being watched, but didn't care. If I remember right I think they said they was in Colorado?

I saw that as well and I cant figure out how that deer couldnt have heard him at 11 yards. And then to draw at that! Who knows -- but he did it. I was impressed!! A lot of nice bucks in those hills where ever it was.

I saw the episode as well and assumed it was on the San Juan Elk Ridge unit, but everything I have heard recently about Elk Ridge is that it has declined quite a bit in quality. The bucks they were showing in this show didn't seem to be hurting in the quality department at all.

Anyone know for sure what unit this show was filmed on? Private or public ground?

I also could not believe he was able to stalk to within 11 yards of that big buck, but good on him!!

I have also heard that they were huntin' on the San Jaun Elk Ridge. I have that episode recorded and have watched it several times. I could be up in the night but it kinda seemed like they were road hunting too. Anyone else think that? Just wonderin?

It sure looked like they were road hunting.....the one scene when he missed the big buck and the kids come down to him you could see the truck in the back ground....nice buck that he stuck..

It is San Juan elk ridge. I was in the same camp as Don last year during the archery elk hunt. I saw many bucks just driving to our elk hunting spot. But it is a limited entry unit and not to many people are hunting it. The deer didn't seem overly spooked to me. I did see some really nice bucks, and a friend of mine drew last year and killed a 188+ 31" buck. Glass him bedded down and stalked in and killed him. Black Timber Outfitters filmed the hunt, and you should see it along with my elk hunt on Don's show sometime. I can only hope I can draw that deer tag before I can put in for elk again, because the second I can start putting in again I will regardless of the points I have for deer. I did notice the odds of drawing the archery deer tag on elk ridge are worse than the paunsagaunt. So what does that tell you of the quality? I guess it is coming back. But, I didn't say that, nobody put in next year it is terrible..........LOL

one of the top shows out there, I've recorded most of 'em...keep up the pace boy's...

I'll agree that's is one of the best shows out there as well. I think most of that has to do with the footage and hunts that the Black's have filmed. One of the best on the Men's Channel along with Christensen Arms.

I swear the Outdoor Channel gets lamer every time I watch it.

Outdoor channel is great if ya want to see a couple fat boys fishing for crap---ies...............

Best of the West is another favorite on the Mens channel.
