3 of us drew the Late deer hunt for Units 60,62A and 60A. Can anybody give us any info. ? The statisics looked really good the draw odds good over the years and we can hunt until Nov. 30. Thers an either sex hunt (800 tags- are they trying to kill ALL the seer or what?) until Nov.17 in units 62A and 60 so I think we should concentrate on Unit 60A out Dubois ? Where do these deer winter?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

The herd of deer and elk that winters in unit 60A is often refered to as the sand creek herd. This deer herd is managed more for quantity than quality. The 60-2 either sex tag has been there for years and there are still plenty of deer in those units. There is enough cover in a few places that allows a few bucks to get older but for the most part there aren't very many bucks that are older than 3 years old when compared to many of the other units in southern Idaho.
If you draw a line from Spencer to Kilgore to Ashton everything to the south is mostly sage. The area to the north of this line is mostly mountains that are mostly covered with log pole pines. Unit 62 is mostly covered by pines. There is a decent population of resident deer in the sage but the hunting will be much better in the sage if you get some snow. If there is enough snow during your hunt the deer from the mountains will move south to the sage. There are also a number of whitetail in this area.
If I had this tag a would pray for snow and plan on doing most of my hunting the last week of November. Don't forget that the Harriman State Park Wildlife Refuge is closed to hunting. The wildlife refuge is basically everything inside the triange formed by thurman ridge, green canyon rd and hwy 20. Send me a PM if you have more questions.
