My hunt started like last year, not enough days to hunt. Last year I had to be back for my brothers hunt on the Pahvant. And this year I only had one day and needed to get back for my moose hunt opener. Again the guy who was going with me was unable to go at the last minute, and so I backpacked in solo once again. Saw this buck within an hour of light and after a half an hour of deliberating, decided to take him. Not very big, but his G3's do fork, making him a 5x5. I had never shot one before, also had good eye guards. He was in full velvet, but after rolling down the mountain 400 yards most had come off. 9 hours later I was back at the truck and heading home for my moose hunt. Definately smaller than my two previous G bucks, but with the amount of time I had, and no one there to help me, I felt I did O.K. One of these days I am going to have time to spend a while and search for the big one, and have someone there to talk to, and help pack out my buck. I am sore.

By the way, one of the most amazing places in the whole world, in my opinion. Wonderful to look at, but could kill you at any minute. I fell crossing a rock slide and slid about 30 yards down the hill. With a heavy pack it doesn't take much to tip you over. Next time, I gotta have someone there to help me. But, there is something about doing it all by yourself.
