Wife drew a Boulder tag

The little lady lucked out with 6 pts and drew a Boulder any weapon tag. I drew a Boulder tag in 2004 and got a nice 350 bull. I've been back down on the mountain several years during the rut and haven't seen the racks like we saw in 2004. I know that the herd isn't as large as Fish Lake's and that there must still be some nice animals down there. Since I put my bull on the wall (and don't have room for another) we aren't looking for the biggest one on the mountain, but a decent one. I know the west side of the mountain fairly well and was seeking a second/third area to checkout. Is the Boulder Top worth the trip up there? Anyways we are looking forward to just being down there again and was seeking some advice. Thanks.

I've sent you some PM's with coordinates for some areas to scout. Good luck to you and your wife, and keep in touch here. We want to hear all about your wife's hunt.

ANTIMONY CREEK IS A GOOD SPOT!

We went down and scouted last weekend. The whole area is the greenest and wettest I've seen. A few locals said that it had rained everyday for the last month. Mud puddles in the roads everywhere. Looks like the elk can sleep, then stand up and eat and drink without walking any distance. Didn't see many elk or much sign. Hopefully things dry up and the elk will have to move a bit.

One question for folks familiar with the area. One could see hundreds of antelope in the area years ago. Now it is hard to see tweenty in a few days. I heard DWR transplanted a bunch. Is this true or have they been over hunted? This reminds me of Ogden Valley where you once saw several moose driving up to the Monte Cristo area. Now none. I enjoy the beauty of the landscape on my trips, but also enjoy seeing "our" STATE ANIMALS.

Good luck this year. That unit was brutal for big bulls last year. It was so so hot and full moon, etc. Hard hunt last year. Best of luck to you and your wife.

I saw one herd the entire time I was down there last year with one average buck. He got shot with a muzzleloader. Sad what has happened to that unit.

Maybe they should promote the herd survey and harvest survey guys so they can't screw up the results again.

just got back from a week on the Boulder hunting deer, didn't see an elk hunted hard morning and night. Didn't see many deer for that matter, does did not have any fawns. Worst i have seen it in 15 years....

I actually saw more deer than in previous years. There was a couple 3pts by Big Lake and one by Pelham Lake. My wife also commented on the lack of fawns. We did drive over to by the GarKane power plant and saw more deer and more hunters on that side of the mountain. It was real nice to find out the road had a closed gate going to Kings Pasture. We were going to camp up there as I have done in the past and play with a few brook trout.

I'm not sure if there is a prettier drive than Hwy 12 between Escalante and Teasdale. Scenic is an understatement.
