AZ Unit-23 Late Season

Hi Guys,

I was lucky enough to draw AZ Elk tag for Unit-23 Late season (Nov 30 to Dec-6th).

My problem is that I have never been to the area and probably won't see it with my own eyes until just before the hunt.

Does anybody know of any maps out there that show the migration routes of elk within this unit. So far I have struck out in my research. Perhaps someone from the area or that has hunted the late season in the past can give me some clues as to which mountain I should be looking at to find migrating bulls.
That is assuming that they will be moving at that time.

Any other info, such as what elevation to find them at that time of year.

So far all I know is that the Southern part of the unit is a lot rougher and steeper than the Northern half.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Jack

Gator, we will be in 22 during the same time you are with our boomsticks also, as i have 3 family members with the tag. Jack7, there are no maps showing migration patterns of elk in 23 that i know of. I have never observed any real migration of elk into the unit during the time your hunt is on. A few do migrate into 23 for the winter, but its not any real mass migration. Bulls trickle in from the reservation starting in november and continue to do so thru january. This can be a good hunt, but prepare yourself for there to be hunters just about everywhere. Your best chances to get away from people is in the south end of the unit, but the south has less elk overall than the north end. If you want to hunt the south end, quads are almost a must. The highest densities of elk in 23 are from canyon creek hatchery down to the town of young. Good luck gator on your hunt and you also jack7!!!
