my brother and I both got lucky in the AZ elk draw and drew a unit 6A late season muzz tag with 2 points. The season is 11/15 - 11/21. Heading out there in May or June to take a lap around the unit. Starting to gather any spots to check out. Would love to hear from Anyone with knowledge on the unit. What’s weather like that time of year, type of bulls to expect, road conditions, etc. Good luck to everyone this year!

Congratulations on the drawing the tags. Should be a great hunt. With your hunting experience I’m sure you guys will find some good Bulls That’s a good plan to get down there and check out the area. That will be a big help.
Wish you the best of luck!

Save your vacation and just go 4-5 days early and plan to stay the whole hunt. Won’t learn a ton in May or June. Take a highlighter and highlight all the roads, then everything within a mile of a road. Then look at the areas that aren’t highlighted, especially if they’ve got steep bluffs or canyons in them. Hike in there and glass hard. Or still hunt the quiet areas in the ponderosas, again, find the areas that are over a mile from a road and focus on them. I’d hunt the south end of the unit. Way south.

Thanks for that. I’ll take the advice!

More elk in 6a than any other unit. Expect cold and nasty weather. 4wd is desirable. Should be a really fun hunt. Get off the roads as most people will be road hunting and you will do well.
