I'm looking into this unit - is it worth the time, effort, and money looking for a mature deer in this unit? Is it worth putting up with all the drilling rigs?
All help will be appreciated.

I hunted it back in 2000. Lot's of roads = lot's of hunters.

I hunted 22 for years (18).
You can still find a good buck if you want to work hard and avoid the masses. It's a good area for guys like my Dad with limited mobility and still get an occaisional chance at a shooter. Definately weather limited. I heard last year they cleaned up on big bucks. It does seem to be a migratory area and the closer you are to the rut (read later in the year) the better the chance on mature bucks.
You pretty much need a point to guarantee a draw though.

Hunted unit 22 last year 3rd season. 2nd season had snow and we were told that alot of bucks taken. 3rd season was dry and warmed up, snow melted and success wasn't as good. Seen a few small bucks and only a couple bigger bucks. We took one 22" 4x5 and one 18" 4x4 on last day of hunting. We had fun and are planning to return if lucky enough to draw.

Smokepole,
Where in 22 did you hunt?
I have put in a lot of time in the monument gulch/calamity ridge area.
