Youth Bull Elk Hunt

I am hoping for some help, my son has drawn a Youth Bull tag. I have hunted faithfully in the Kamas, Soapstone area in the past, but the last few scouting trips we have made have me discouraged and worried,a ton of Bowhunters and they are not seeing anything along with extremely dry conditions and not much sign at all.
I guess my question is where could you point me to fill a tag for a 13 year old boy, he wants to harvest an animal and im not familiar with many places other than the Kamas area. I know a lot of guys on here want a free ride but I just want to fulfill my boys dreams of taking a good bull, any help at all is appreciated.

He had a got chance for a branch antlered bull, anything more than that well be luck. I'll pm you my phone number and give you a couple spots to look.

try up by moon lake in hells canyon, lots of elk up there if you want to hike for them.

My friend also had a youth elk tag. We nornally hunt by flaming gorge but this year the archery hunt was the worst ever. No bugling and no elk. Anyone else have any ideas for a kid that needs to shoot an elk he will take a rag horn elk. He just wants to hear some bugles and take an elk.

Hunted the Uinta's with my son this weekend. No elk, no bugles. Hot weather in the 70's. Did anyone have success on the youth hunt.

On the bright side we help a lady and her husband load a bull moose they had taken. Pretty neat for her.

Same here, we hunted the Uintas and no talking at all. We saw elk on the way in to camp late Friday evening after dark in the road. Nothing Sat/Sun. Heard a couple of faint cow calls and then late last night one lone bugle after dark way down in a canyon.

Tough hunt so far, we are home regrouping today (read resting).

I had my 13 year old out this weekend and it was rough. We did see a raghorn but couldn't get on him before he went into the deep timber to bed. We went back in that night and the next morning and all we saw was a bear in the bottom. Like everyone else said a few cows talking but no bugles and hot weather. Hopefully this weekend will be better.

Good luck to all the youth

LAST EDITED ON Sep-19-12 AT 09:04AM (MST)[p]We hunted our azzes off up East Canyon yesterday... left the truck at 4:30am. We saw:
1 single cow elk by herself standing on a big open face
2 undetermined elk in a meadow about 2 miles from where we were sitting... after having hiked 5 miles to get to that spot. No, we didn't go further to investigate.
Uncounted numbers of deer
1 bear who was making enough noise to scare all those deer into the next draw
1 moose yeah, shocking to see a moose in East Canyon :)

I think we are heading back to the South Slope this Fri-Sun.
