I just saw this post on the UDWR's website and I am reposting the link and the post here to see if anyone can help solve this crime:

Any of you that bow hunt the wasatch mountains know how difficult it can be to stalk up on those big bucks in that steep terrain.

Well last Sunday morning at day break someone with a goatee beard and a blue Polaris 4 wheeler decided he would do it the easy way and popped a huge buck from the top of a ridge in little cottonwood canyon.

He drove down to his hard-won trophy, cut off the head and made his escape.

DWR was notified and they were questioning campers in the area. An autopsy was performed on the buck to try to determine caliber size, etc.

He took the buck I was hunting for this season and happened to miss on opening morning of the bow hunt. I guess I have to switch to his smaller brother.

Would everyone please ask around and see if anyone has any infromation on this poaching. There is an open investigation so you can call 662-DEER and report any additional info.

Also all of you taxidermists out there - he did take the time to cape the buck. It is a big typical 4x4 that looked to be about 28" -30" wide and about 25" tall.

This kind of activity not only ruins the sport for the rest of us that are busting our humps to do it the right way, but it makes all of us look like jackasses in the eyes of the average person.

Thanks for letting me vent...

If he went up through Mineral Basin from AF Canyon, you can get almost all the way on top. If these jacka@#es keep this stuff up, they'll shut the whol;e thing down permanently!

Does it seem like poachers are ALL lazy? They're always shooting out of their vehicles, spotlighting from roads or doing it off of quads. I wonder how many deer get taken uethically in the back country?

Sad story though.

NO respect, we should show them none. These people are the ones that give the rest of us the bad name. Just as any stereotype. Sad, very sad.

I busted a poacher a few years back that did the same thing but went in a couple of days early and shot one. The sad thing is everyone can say how sad it is people would do this but it all falls on the glory and rep, of getting the bigger deer, and not just enjoying hunting for what it is. This guy had pouched time and time again, and he did it all for the show he couldn't be happy with a smaller deer he always had to have biggest every year so he couldn't do that with a bow so he shot four bucks in a row with a rifle why the rest of us were hard hunting with bows. When I figured it out now he cant hunt anymore and Iam glad to put him away. Dam poachers!!!!
