I hate hunters who leave trash in the mountains and on the roads.

Sorry for the subject line, but I wanted to get as many people as possible to read this post.

I took my 15 daughter out hunting for the first time this year, she drew a central Utah deer tag and she was pretty excited to be able to go hunting and I was very excited to pass on my passion of hunting to her.

Last night as we were riding around different areas looking for deer, she made the comment to me. "Dad, why do all you hunters leave trash all over the mountains?" I was very upset; there were beer and pop cans all over the roads and trash where people had camped.

If you are guilty of leaving trash on the mountain, please change your ways!! I pick up most all the trash I find and carry it off the mountain, but I shouldn't have to do that and I know I'm not the only one that does this.

Sorry for bringing up this subject, but it really disturbed me last night.

I understand where your coming from, however you need to realize it is not just hunters who trash the mountains. There are millions of people who flock to the mountains continuously for 3-4 months a year. They are just as much to blame. Be sure to pass that on to your daughter, that it is not just hunters.

It's Bush's fault!!!

I hear you there buddy, I feel the same way about hunters that disrespect the mountians. I take home about 18 pack of beer cans and just as much if not more pop cans. It pisses me off big time. Put the sh#t in the back of your truck or take a garbage bag with you. That way I don't spend my quality hunting time picking up garbage!!!!!!!!!!

In the central region up chicken creek I see 40 hunters to 3 non hunters. IT IS HUNTERS!!! that garbage is not there between hunts in the fall, just when hunts are going on!

I agree with you 100%, but all this trash was from the last week, which is when most of the people in the mountains are hunters.

I just want people to think before they throw a can or trash out their window or off their four wheeler.

We as hunters are the minority now and we don't need to give people more ammunition against us to make us look bad.

I brought back my share of 3 year old beer bottles from the Books this past week. I leave every camp site spotless.

I agree that trash is one of my peeves. I don't know if it always hunters, but I am sure that some are pigs. (I think there is a big difference in the definition of a sportsmen and a hunter, but that is a whole other subject). I was taught and still follow the practice of leave the area cleaner than you found it. Part of packing up camp is taking a trash bag and picking up everything, my garbage or not. I also always have to empty the trash from my pack every night. My brother and I have also come across other camp sights and cleaned them up. I will admit it is a pain to have to fit in 3 bags of garbage into the truck.

One year after finding our usual archery hunting camp a sty for a couple of years, I found my brother standing on top of the truck with nailing a hand written sign to a tree on an old board "Hey Pigs, clean up after yourselves". It stayed there for years, and I think helped some.

i agree 100% it pisses me off people need to clean up there own trash why would someone do that? i pick up everything on the roads and off the roads! i mean its not that hard to clean it up even if you just put it in back of the truck.

Yep...it burns me up when people leave trash all over their campsites....

Some people are just pigs. Last year ice fishing on Strawberry I seen more trash on the ice then I've ever seen before. I know it was due to there not being that much snow and the entire lake was accessable by ATVs. Those idiots were everywhere until we got enough snow to keep them off the ice. Some clown rode by me on his 4-wheeler chugging a beer and when he finished it he just through it over his shoulder. It amazes me how people can carry a full 12 pack in somewhere but can't carry an empty one out.

Didnt think to take pics but here in southern AZ you should see the trash the ILLEGALS leave behind.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-07 AT 06:29PM (MST)[p]You know, I could care less about the "Adopt A Highway" Program. Born in the rural South, I am a firm believer that chain gangs should be re-instated, and the county and state penal system should make them work for their keep. Same for the border illegals, before you send them back!

I do believe in policing my hunting area tho, and make it a point to devote one weekend each Spring to driving the roads and picking up as many cans and other trash as I can. It is truly incredible the kinds of stuff people carelessly discard along the roads and trails.

Chain gangs would be great. I have had guys working for me break the law on purpose (some of it made the headline news) to go back to prison, because life is so much easier there. Get them bastards out working and make it miserable. They might think twice about being stupid.

Ada County has an "alternative sentencing program" and it involves picking up trash on the freeway. Idaho needs a program for the hardened tweekers or cho mos to do hard manual labor. Maybe we'll get lucky and they will be snake bit or wolf ate. Let them build the new highway to N. ID Instead of dynamite and machinery, give them pick axes and water.

My Grandpa and Dad always told me to throw your cans out!! So when some lucky aluminum can finder drives by, he or she could pick them up and make more money for themselves.

middlehoof, Your Grandpa and Dad, are or were, whatever the case, morons. You probably chuck your cans out as well I bet. Stupid is as stupid does. mtmuley

Good for you.
I agree 100%. I don't know about others, but hunting isn't just about the kill it's the whole outdoor experience. See God's work not someone's trash.

mtmuley;

We usually come back sober and pick up are cans or send the kids out on ATV's to see how many beer cans they can collect. And when they get back I'm telling them how ugly it is when people throw there garabage out so when they grow up they won't litter. You know It's hard to teach a old dog new tricks, Plus I don't want to get a Open container when I'm spot lighting for Mostery Muleys during the hunt!
