Hey men,
I am sitting on 14 Colorado deer points and I figure it is time for me to cash them in. After waiting this long for a good hunt I would like as many opinions as I can get on where I should burn them. I have actually tried to draw 10 and 21 in the past, but I think there may be better units for the points. What do you say?

I don't have a good answer for you, but I do have the same problem.. My wife now has 15 ppt's and she is finally ready to use them next year.

I will probably put her in for one of the Ranching for Wildlife Properties, 6 or 7 of the properpties offer only 1 deer tag and it typically takes anywhere from 12 - 14 points to draw them, with a very good chance at 180+. Not sure however about the Forbes Trinchera, as I just read that it was sold all 171,000 acres.. I do believe the buyer plans to leave it in tact, but not sure how the hunting opportunities will work out...

I thought that non-residents are not allowed to apply for the Ranching for Wildlife program anymore. I know they were able to participate in the past, but I thought it changed a few years ago to a program just for residents. Am I wrong?

Drawing a Ranching for wildlife property is for residents only, non-residents must buy a premit from the ranch to hunt it.

To bad they don't do point banking anymore. You could have 3 awesome hunts with that many points. I think people are crazy to save more than about 5 points in CO

With 14 points my question is how good a shape you in.........

I would go with unit 10 or 66 or 67 4th season or 44 4th season. U will need the weather no matter what unit for the chance at a real hog or get real lucky. U cant get lucky if u are not out there hunting.

If you stay in the top tier of units, which unit you pick will have less to do with your success than how hard you hunt, the weather and good old fashioned luck. This is a do you like bud light or miller light question. The top units 10, 21 66 44 etc etc. are all great units - go hunt one of them now while they are good and before a winter die off or disease event comes along and changes that. You probably can't make a "bad" choice.

My wife and I are both residents of Colorado, which is why I am considering one of the Ranching for Wildlife properties for her.

I'm getting up in years and have a knee replacement, but I can still hike and backpack if needed.(decent shape) What are you suggesting Cabinfever? Is there an off the road unit you are thinking of?
I am planning on hunting hard and long if I'm burning this many points and yes I am an "idiot" for not banking the points two years ago when I had the chance!
I've been holding out for a late hunt but if it's warm like this year, that may even be a bust.
