I finally drew the Book Cliffs Muzzleloader Elk tag this year. It is the Bitter Creek unit and not the Roadless. I was hoping some of you could point me in the right direction as to where I should look for good camping spots. I plan on heading there this weekend to begin scouting and am hoping to a few more times before the hunt as well. Thanks in advance!

Ok so you are planning on going in the Duchesne way? If so there a lots of places to camp along Seep Ridge Road. Also once you get to the Divide Road there are spots east or West from there. Should be hard to find an area to camp. Just make sure to bring extra fuel and spares as you are a long ways from anything. We will be there to because my dad has the same tag. So good luck! We are coming from the Ogden area as well. Maybe we'll see you down there.

Keep in mind with this weekend being the opening of the deer, big bull and spike archery, this will be one of the busiest weekends of the year. Last year this weekend it was packed. Also many of the elk will be in much different places now than on the muzzleloader. Been hearing of some dandy bulls between McCook and the border. I personally haven't spent a ton of time looking for elk, mostly running bears and scouting for deer. But seems to be better elk numbers further east this year.

Good luck on your hunt. A family friend had this tag in 2010 and they had an amazing hunt. He harvested a great bull and the whole family was able to be a part of the hunt.

:) Keep us posted.

I just made it home after chasing bucks with a bow out there. As far as camping goes, like someone else said, there are plenty of options to the east and west once you hit the Divide Road.

Between hunting and scouting time I put eyes on piles of elk both to the east and west. Saw a bachelor group of six bulls twice the past four days, all were 6x6's, one was very, very good. If you're interested shoot me a PM and I'll get you a little more info, although I have no idea how much things will change between now and the hunt. They could change a lot I suppose.

The Book Cliffs is a neat place, you'll have fun!

I hope you have a good post coming over in the mule deer forum backinthegame... Wanna hear and see how your deer hunt went...
