Wyoming area 128

Does anyone know what kind of a buck could be expected in this area. I know it is supposed to be one of the best in the state, just trying to find out if it is worth the wait

I had it in 06. A good solid buck would be pretty easy. Finding a real monster is tough. The warden said 2-3 really good bucks are taken each year on the 100 tags. It is more of an easy hunt than a super trophy hunt. I was happy with mine, but it was easily the best I saw in almost two weeks of hunting. It took second in the big buck contest, but it was a wierd scoring system. The guy running the contest said I really got the best buck that year. I'm not sure a 128 hunt is worth several hunts in a easier to draw area, but if you have other hunts in other states to fall back on, it might be. I will not apply for it again because I drew the first year of points, draw odds are really poor for me.

I stopped putting in for 128 becouse the odds are so low. but like what was said before if you have other hunts in different states it might be the way to go.

Something to think about.
If you don't mind hunting in October you can hunt that unit almost every year on the region tag. The deer are there in October just not as visible as during the rut.

Spent 9 days in 128 last year. I would look somewhere else for a trophy unit. Overrated area, 100 late tags for that little area during the rut is way to many.....
We saw a "maybe" 180" buck, lots of 160" type bucks. Lots of wolves.....
We took two bucks in MT in two days before going to 128 and the bucks we took in MT were bigger than what we were seeing in 128.
Sure theres a few big ones shot, but theres also a few big ones shot in units with better odds of drawing or in general area's
If they cut back the tags it might get my attention agian, but for now our general season MT area is just as good.......

Buckspotter, did you hunt, or just get pictures. Looks like no snow. In 06 the snow helped a lot. I tracked my buck in the timber, doubt I would have found him without snow.

EF, We hunted from the 12th to about the 18th. No snow to mention, light dusting one day. My Dad killed the #3 buck on the 17th and I killed a 24" 3x3 on the 18th. We also could have killed the #1 buck the night before it was killed from the road, but honestly I thought it was too late. turns out we had a few minutes left of legal shooting light. Saw about 10 4x4's each day mostly 20" to 24" bucks. Didn't see anything bigger except the two in the pictures. I'd love to draw again and hope for more snow!

Cool. I am a NR, so no point in me applying again, being out of the top pool. I might change my deer pick depending on the results of the sheep draw, but an looking at G or H from now on.

Hey ElmerFudd, I have seen the pics of your buck(very nice!) and recall you posting pics of the finished taxidermy job. I think my Dad took his to the same guy. Do you mind posting another pic? Thanks, buckspotter7
