Here is a freak for ya, the pic was taken last friday. Does anyone else think he could be close to 35" wide? And it still looks like he is going to get wider!

Wow. What a cool buck. Thanks for sharing. I would say he is close to 35" wide. You better keep tabs on him and send us a picture when he is on the ground!!

sh-sh-sh-sh-SHOOT!!! I'd say 35". Great Character...love his main beams and overall mass!!!

Dang it better put in next year!!!

I'd say 35" and like you said he will get a little wider as his main beam grows on his two point side.

Thanks for sharing.

That is a great looking deer. I'd say you are in the ball park for width. Look at those huge bases, sway back, and face. That is an old buck that would be very dead (or very scared) if I saw him on any hunt I apply for. Thanks for posting JDH.

I saw a buck like that last year but it was a 2x2 that was really heavy and about 25 inches wide... I shot the 4x4 instead that it was with...

Look at those bases. He's got to be an old bugger. I'd likely whack him after a moment's hesitation. I like old deer with mass. It would be interesting to have his sheds; I'm curious about what he has been.

A couple of years back up on South Mesa Moab area, We saw 4 bucks like that one (all 4x2's) they was in a herd of deer they came into the fields right about 1st snow there was 31" with great mass and thick then a 28" smaller horned and med mass and 2 24" willow horn and normal mass but one of the 24" had it on the other side, I think they was twins,IMO they was brothers with a year apart in age, The Bio told me that it could be because the twins was in the womb they swapped sides, But they was in the fields each year growing big each year. They looked just like that one in the picture. Any chance this picture is from that area.

I would say you are about right. I would shoot him just to get his genetics out of the herd. If he isn't going to fork again on that left side, then he needs to be taken out. Regardless of the lack of four points on the other side, i would still shoot the dude!!

I don't think his genetics are a problem. He's an old buck going down hill. It's very typical for the old farts to lose points and retain width and mass. He's a revert. I'd like to have seen him a year or two ago. Dandy for sure and every bit of 35" when he's done. Thanks for sharing the pics.

GO HARD KORE AND SNEEK UP ON OLD BUCKS

Looks like some of the bucks I seen out on Vernon last year. That place has some genetic issues with 2x4s

jdh,

Something tells me he is going to have an arrow in him in about 6 weeks?;-)

I would prefer a 4X4 or more, but I would shoot him as a unique trophy!

Thanks for sharing the pics jdh!

Hey Guys I got looking at some older pictures and I think I found some interesting stuff. I believe these pics to be of the same buck. What do you all think.

here is the buck in winter of 2007'

Then here he is in the summer of 2007

And then this is probably him in the summer of 2006

If these are all him, looks like he is getting old.
Enjoy,

In the first picture his horns look to thin to match him. I think the second to last pic may be him. Also his eye guard is a little more prominent on one side than the other. So pictures 1 and 2 are the same deer and pictures 3 and 4 are your deer. Just an educated guess.

Photos two and three are the big guy for sure. Check out the skull patch and the tip of the buck's left ear. Love the mass at the bases. Great buck getting old.

Definately a shooter in my book - just something about taking an obviously old buck that's past his prime - and that mass. I love mass. Thanks for the picture(s).

This large fork was out with his does, bout ten of them, I would have let a few arrows fly if i seen him out there durring archery season, but it was elk season. Bummer.
