Presserving velvet on horns

I got a buck with my bow the other day and the horns still had the velvet on them. There are places on the horns where the velvet is sraped off but just a little bit. The question is: What can I do to presserve them from the velvet coming off? I would like to keep them the way they are since that was the way I took the buck. Right now I have them in the freezer. Is this ok. Please help...
Thanks

The freezer is the best place for them. Then get them to a taxidermist to get formaldahyde on them to make sure there preserved. Congrats on the velvet buck. Lets see some pics.

I can't tell you how to preserve, but you can fix missing velvet.Get a burlap bag, then take a wire brush and brush across bag until you get a bunch of the small fibers. Then take a little super glue and apply to areas that you need to fix and apply fibers until you reach the look you want.

the past 2 years ive gotten velvet archery bucks and all i did was just let them dry out outside. so far i havent had them peal at all. taking them to a taxi will get the job done but it costs money and if it is just a little buck it may not be worth spending. honestly, in my experience the velvet has stayed on just fine without any chemicals or dry freezing. just try and keep the critters away as they dry

Brush on turpentine, I have a buddy that did this on his caribu and it worked great.

Here he is..17 wide by 18 tall 3x3 with forked eyegurads. Shot him at 37 yards.

I 2nd the turpentine......don't cake it on, just brush it on evenly accross the entire rack.....then hang the rack (tips down) and let the blood drip off the points while air drying...
Good luck-
Chris

pushin_30 I agree with you the freezer the place. If he wants he can order from one of the taxidermy company's Velvet Tan. McKenzie has it 1-800-279-7985 . Or look up Taxidermy, net.
