Well, I went and used up my max points. I'm wondering if any of you have hunted here and/or have any info you are willing to share. I'm pretty excited about this tag and can't wait for the hunt. I'm starting to tune up the muzzleloader today.
thanks

Steve

buglinst, You might want to try the California Forum. There were several hunts reported on there from last year with some good info given. PM's sent to the reporting hunters of that unit may well come up with some of the best info to be had!! Don't forget to check the back pages!

Great tag by the way! Hope you do well.

Joey

I would be willing to scout and show you areas to go but I just dont give up free info unless I get to be in on the hunt.

From years past as everyone knows it used to be a good hunt. I dont know now. +1 6X7 I am a whore for a good hunt too:) Being on a good hunt is just as good as having the tag.....until your buddy shoots a 23" 3 point!!LOL

Thats what happend last year I had taken 5 days off to help a friends brother out.Opening morning he was with his family where we told him to go and they got worked up over a 22 or 24 inch 4x4,well they shot him.I went back up for the closing weekend to quail hunt and we saw 3 shooters one wide buck around 26 or 27 one 5x4 and a heavy tall 4x4 that were both 24 inch mature bucks. If he only would of held out, but he was happy with the buck he got I guess thats all that matters.

If I knew how to post pictures on this website, not much of a computer guy, I could show you some shed horns from that area that would go close to 180" that you might like.

6x7 no free advice huh???
why even hang out here?
I want to say you suck and forum's are for info! a fellow hunter asked for help and you crapped on him...what are you missing here?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-31-09 AT 07:24AM (MST)[p]Rack I think you need to re-read 6x7s post again. HE said he does not give info for free UNLESS he gets to be on the hunt. MEANING invite me along and I will help you out.He did not say anything about paying or money did he? Whats the shame in wanting to go on a good hunt? I think that is a pretty damn good offer! Maybe you need to go back and wipe the crap off of 6x7 because it sure seems like you crapped on a fellow hunter!

Rackmaster,
I got a hold of 6x7 and he wanted to help. hes just not going to post good info over the internet. Interestingly enough he lives about 20mi from my house. ironic.:)

Hey Steve you stole my dam tag. I had max too but no love for me. At least you can go scout it for me for next year and i wont have to do so much work.ha ha. I saw a few ok bucks last year in there because i drew 021(crazy luck) again and spent about 12 days up there playing around. I hope you get the weather. Last year sucked pretty hard on the NV side. I read what it says...I said nothing of money!
he should have kept it to pm's...
glad he want to go help you! you sound very nice and sure you can use the help!
good luck and hold out for a big'in!!

I hunted there last year did not get the snow to push down the really big deer saw some nice deer the doyle grade is a good place to start.

I believe one of the purposes of this hunt is for hunters to be able to harvest a few of the bucks that live on refuges during the summer and fall. Unfortunately the hunt dates are about a month too early. Unless you recieve a ton of snow early you'll be hunting mostly resident low land bucks and a few early migrators. The area has good potential and if you hunt hard you should be able to harvest a good buck. do some homework and stay away from doyle grade.

Funny thing, I saw 6x7 there on opening day guiding his buddy and he's right. His buddy shot the first 4x4 buck that I saw on opening day, it was a nice buck but not one to burn that tag on. There were plenty of larger bucks in the unit all the way till the last day. If 6x7 wants to show you around then by all means let him, he knows the area well and can put you on some great bucks. I am thinking about spending time up there towards the end of the season just to see some of the big boys running around. The final Sunday morning of last years season we saw 14 bucks in about 2 1/2 hours. The first was a 27 - 28 inch 4x4 that my wife passed up twice the first weekend and was looking for by thursday but couldn't find again untill it was too late.

If only I could log in..I can't remember my password and it will not e-mail my password to me for some odd reason. I wish I could see those pictures. Thanks
