Well, I hunted two and a half days during this general season rifle deer hunt. Had some close encounters with some nice bucks, let one slip away that was about 25 inches wide trying to get my dad a shot at him and shot at another close to 28 or 29 inches wide with trash on both sides. Just could not seal the deal until yesterday. My standards were 4 point or better. I glassed my buck up at 8:15 am and put him to bed at 8:30 down in a hell hole. I decided not to go after him and hunt another area. After turning up nothing temptaion got the best of me so I went back and hiked down into that hole. I got to within 100 yards of where I thought he was bedded, layed my 300 ultra mag over a rock and started glassing the area. It took ten minutes to find the tip of his antler above the brush. I then played the waiting game for 45 minutes watching him through the scope until he stood up to feed. I could not see his vitals because of the brush so I took a neck shot. After the recoil I looked and saw legs sticking up above the brush. A dead buck! Good times and many great learning experiences.

This is where he was bedded before the shot, then my camera batteries died! (Bummer)

This is him back home. Looking forward to next years hunting adventures! I tagged out on the general season elk hunt as well. I dumped a 5 point bull on the third day, look for that story and pics comming up soon in the elk hunting forum!!

congrats on a nice buck. That mountain is nasty and im surprised you got him out whole. Ill be up there in a few weeks on the archery.

Yeah, it was either cut it up and pack up or drag it down to the road. I opted to drag it down because I did not have my frame pack. It was up on top with my atv and I wasn't hiking back up that crap to get it. I called my dad and had him pick me up lower on the road and take me up to my wheeler. The buck brush in that area is almost 6 feet tall! Talk about a helpless feeling when you get into an area like that dragging a deer! There are some nice bucks up there but boy do you pay for it if you want one! I would do it again, just not any time soon! I'll need a year to wash out the memories of that drag!

Muleyslayer,

I seriously doubt that his "advertising" of Farmington Canyon is going to bring a ton of new hunting pressure to the canyon. Most of us have grown up knowing that if we work hard enough and spend enough time we can harvest a buck in that stuff. Still, most of us prefer not to work that hard. I doubt that his harvesting and posting of this buck on Monstermuleys will change that. Just my $.02 anyway.

Congratulations of harvesting a buck up there. That is a lot of work....I KNOW!
