I've hunted the west river SD prairies for muleys mid November, now I plan to hunt late Sept/early Oct. Not sure what to expect as far as finding a nice buck that early and pre-rut...

Spot (from the road) and stalk has always been our game plan in Nov. So, do we stick with that plan or will we do better 'walking them up'? Not so sure how mature bucks behave that early...

Thanks!

Whereabouts are you going? I'm from the northwest corner of the state. Either put them to bed and stalk them or intercept them in the mornings and evenings going to or coming from feeding is what we do.

Find a good place to glass and then bed them down. Mornings usually are better than evenings. The bad thing about evenings is that you run out of daylight to soon.

Covering alot of country during the prime hours can locate you deer but rember in SD you need permission to hunt private land even if its not posted. There are also some good bucks on public land, theres just a little more competition.

Good luck,
