165-170 would be my guess.

Thanks...I know nothing about scoring and started to research it today. I was hoping it would make the book min of 145. It is scored as a typical correct?

Shouldn't have any trouble making 145...

My buddy picked up a set of sheds almost identical to that rack last year in Wyoming. We rough scored the set of sheds around 163, but that was with a spread credit of the main beam length so he would have been bigger. I think you should get a solid 165 out of that buck.

Let us know what you come up with.

That's a great buck, congrats!

Nice buck but i don't see 160 on this buck. When scoring for a record book, as mentioned that they might, the score recorded has to be the "Net Score".

This buck appears to be a 4X3. The G-3 is actually a full deduction. Basically this buck would be scored as a 3 point as that G-3 is added to the gross but then subtracted for the Net, might as well not be there, other than looking cool, for net score purpose.

Do i think this buck will net score 145? Maybe. I think that's the ballpark we are in after deductions.

Don't shoot the messenger!! :) Congrats again, Nice Buck!!

Thanks for all the comments...yes, I do believe there will be a deduction. I am hopeful that it will make the min. Being that we always hunt public land and never put in for a draw area is what makes this special...icing would be if it made the book also. I'm hopeful!

I was thinking the same thing

I agree with the NET score calculations above. I was thinking GROSS score, but if you want it in the books you will have to go with the NET.

Good Luck!

So taxidermist scored it...he said he is usually within an inch of the "official score" and seems legit. Gross 174 7/8ths. Net is 168 1/4. Will let everyone know what it goes after 60 days.

Unless I'm missing something, your taxidermist may be a bit generous....which is not too surprising for most taxidermists. Sage is absolutely correct, it will be measured as a main-frame 3x3 with eye-guards. To get a rough estimate simply take the shortest measurement of each tine/circumference from each respective side (MB, G1, G2, G4, H1-H4) and double it......then add the inside spread. This will give you your net score. Pictures are very difficult to judge sometimes, but I'd guess he'll be between 148-152" officially.

Wyokid "Gross 174 7/8ths. Net is 168 1/4"

So, he only measured about 6-7" of Deductions? Sorry, something very fishy is going on here.

Not only is the one G-3 a full deduction, the G-2's are not looking the same length as well and that is also a deduction. Even Bucks that look near perfect usually have at least small deductions thru out the rack and those little deductions add up.

BOHNTR is an very experienced "Official" scorer. If not me, listen to what he has to say.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. I just don't want to mislead you with telling you what you want to hear as your Taxidermist may have done.

You bet guys....I totally "get" it. I will keep everyone posted on the results. I don't want inflated scores either, taxidermist seemed pretty confident though. While score doesn't mean a bunch...he's just happy with the deer. We are trying to get close on the score quickly as we've seen a few others that maybe "dad" can fill his tag on.
