The CMDA auctioned the second Colorado statewide ("Governor's") license last weekend for $21,000. Why do you think it went so low?

The high bid was $18k and the bidder bumped it to $21k to try to get it moving. Nobody else bid and it sold for $21k.

Obviously when the season has been shortened From Janruary 21st to December 31st to now November 30th...might be a HUGE reason why. I wonder if those in charge who voted to make these ridiculous changes are the same ones who voted to let James Holmes live instead of meeting his maker. Must of been a bunch of wussy Kalifornicated transplants.

Very surprising!! I can't believe it would go that low either. To be able to hunt anywhere in the state until the end of November is still great.
I will say though, quite often the guys with money follow the advice of the guides they use on hunts of that value. Brownlee, Moss and others who do the scouting and hunting for those guys in different states probably dictate price quite a lot based on what they're telling clients. Obviously very, very few rich guys who buy those tags are doing the hunting themselves. I can't say I know of any dudes buying those super expensive tags and not hiring some sort of a guide.
So if the guys who do the scouting and guiding don't feel that they can produce something very special for their client, then I guess that drives the price down. ??
As much trouble as Brownlee finds in Colorado, I'd bet he's given up that gig, and with that, maybe he takes his clients to Mexico instead.

$21k is not much for that tag though. Someone with more money than I, got a sweet deal.

If you think that you might have to do some hunting yourself now or pay a guide that doesn't have a 250 inch buck on a string it is not worth the money . What a shame. I guess reconnecting with a hunt like our grandparents went on is not worth much money.

I like it. No more shooting bucks on their winter range in late January...

That said, being able to hunt anywhere in CO during the rut seems it should still be worth more than 21k (for a rich guy). Maybe it was a display of defiance against the new hunt dates..?? The normal players involved in that tag said, "Nope, we aren't going to push anyone to buy it," so that maybe the CO Wildlife Management will reconsider the tag dates next year.??

I couldn't care less, just happy the dates aren't going into December now. Its still a hunt no matter the cost, go earn your buck.
wish I had 21k to spend on a tag like that, wouldn't spend any money on a guide for dam sure. I'd use up all of my vacation I have been saving and go find something :D

So the two auction tag hunters have killed over 510" of deer before the first week of September was over. I would say that the value of the December hunt was a bit overstated.

The velvet bucks sure don't travel as much that time of year comparatively. Maybe we should encourage the CDOW to have the season start Sept 15th after the bucks shed their fuzzy skin. And while at it, eliminate all LO and Private welfare tags. Those hunts are canned hunts anyway and only the rich can afford to open their wallets to such nonsense. it's not fair.

Not really just playing devils advocate.

True. Sometimes they even need a little help getting across the fence to the right property. :)

Some folks just can't seem to do things right....
