I drew a rifle bull tag for the first hunt. I have never hunted the unit before, but have some idea of what to expect. I am not looking for anyone's spot(s), but would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on this particular hunt and unit. We have horses and plan on scouting the unit in August. thanks

You might find good elk near the edges of the unit in August, but they will retreat to the interior after the pressure starts in sept. Go deep, severals miles in, and look for bulls high, up on the mesas and high medows. There are some toads back there, it's a good tag if you have the horses.
Be ready for sudden thunder storms.
Be ready to climb to places the horses won't go, and pack a bull back down on your back. This will get you away from the outfitters.
There is some very rugged country back in 16B, it isn't a cake walk.

I have a 16B archery tag. Got some areas picked out SEVERAL miles in.

I have hunted 16A but not sure what to expect here. I hunted right across the road a few years back.

How would you say the quality in this unit is compared to 16A?

I got a 16b archery tag. Want some company for safety on a pack in mission, or a good price from an outfitter to join their camp. I will find my own elk. Just want to be safe. In good shape, fully prepared with everything uccept horses. Can anyone help, or does anyone want to join me. I got the sept 1-15 tag and plan hunting hardest sept 10-15. I can handle myself, but am willing to pay a reasonable fee to join a spike camp just for safety.
