First Elk Hunt.

The other day I got a call from the Nevada Department of Wildlife explaining that they had extra bull elk tags left over in area 072 and 074 which is Northern Jarbidge vicinity and they asked me if I wanted one which of course I said "yes"!!!!!!!!!
The problem is that I've never hunted elk and I'm wondering how I should go about hunting them. Should I hunt them like mule deer? From what I gather, elk are more shy than mule deer. Should I look in the timber? Should I look up high? Do elk go to thier beds at first light? Should I get into the wilderness area? I have one month to scout so my plan is to get out there up high before day light and glass. This might be a once in a lifetime tag and Nevada has great trophy quality so I don't want to use my Nevada tag on a spike or something less than the area has to offer if I can help it. My regular hunting partners are already promised out to another elk hunter in another area as was I until I got this tag. And he needs the help more than I do. But I've got other friends interested in going along but any info from the monster muley crowd would be appreciated. Thankyou. fatrooster.

Rooster ,
Are you sure it's a 'bull' tag ? There aren't any leftovers after the drawing , is it a tag someone turned back in ? Either way I sent you a PM .

Fairchase, the secretary said that it was a bull tag. I guess I'll know for sure when it shows up in the mail. I sent you an answer in a PM. Thanks. fatrooster.
