Montana deer hunting regulation question

I have an invitation to do some deer hunting in the middle of Montana on private land this Fall. After looking at last year's regulations, I'm still not a 100% sure what is needed and when I need to apply. Any help? Do I simply need a conservation tag and a "combination deer" license to hunt either whitetail or mulie bucks (rifle)? Do I need to apply by March 15 or by June? I'll be hunting around Shawmut. Thanks for any help. By the way, I did get on the 2004 regulations mailing list.

For deer all you have to do is send them the money along with a deer combo application by March 15, the conservation licence is included with the cost... If you want to put in for any special tags (doe, or special buck) then the deadline is June 1.... BUT you have to draw a buck tag to put in for special buck tag. Most areas in MT are for buck Muledeer or Whitetail. Check the regs to make sure what area you will be hunting in to make sure... Good luck

That's right, a deer combo tag is all you need.
Here's the important part.
If you know the landowner see if they will sponser your deer tag.
Not likely you will draw the first year on a deer combo tag unless you are sponsered.

Tucker,

if you're going to that area of the state you might as well apply for an antelope permit while you're at it. it's a special drawing with app. due June 1.

Drawing just a deer tag is harder than drawing a deer/elk combo. If you have the chance for an elk you might as well apply for one
