Who here believes that the next world record (typical or non) is living today? and if you believe so, will he be harvested or die of non human causes?

I think so, and he will die of non human (natural) causes, just because it is funner to believe in something you have never scene.
Michael

Yep -

They're right here in British Columbia. Just so much space for them to hide......

I wouldn't doubt we've had many world records die of old age in this province.

I swear I was thinking of this yesterday, if he is alive he would have to be in the Greys river area or maybe in the Gross venture area...would he be killed by human or just old age .?..

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-04 AT 07:35PM (MST)[p]It just kills me to think that his sheds are laying out on some thick timbered hillside in BC getting chewed on by rodents.
I'm quite confident that BC is the place that he's living. Will he be shot? Damn rights. He'll drop in his tracks as soon as I fill him full of lead.

I do believe the typical record will go down in the next 5 to 10 years. The non-typical is pretty secure IMO. For blacktail both categories are in trouble. For coues, the typical will go down but the non...it could be many years before we see its demise.

Colorado will produce the next typical record and BC will come close on the nontypical.

But the next 300" nontypical will come from California!

Without a doubt he is living today and unfortunatly will probably be poached. In fact, I have heard of a monster that was taken by a poacher last year way down south that would have done it. It comes from a very good source, backed up by game officials so I've no doubt its true. Had some lucky hunter gotten it rather than the poacher we would have a lot to chat about.....................rf

Rob, was this buck a typical or non-typical? What state or country or province did this poached behemoth come from. Without pulling all the cash out of the bank give us a few paltry crumbs to dimenish our appetite. thanks, rick

There is going to be a world typical probably pulled out of Mexico in the next few years. As for non-typ I agree, it will be hard to beat the existing. coues non-typ with the funky one in the book thats questionable, I doubt non-typ will be broke. Blacktail is only a matter of time............ Allen Taylor......

I sure like to think he is sucking air, but am unsure. just the genetics alone to all come together to drop the world record is immense. I see alot of big bucks out and about, bucks that drop my jaw in the dirt, yet they do not come close to the world records. I see pictures posted online and circulated amongst the crews and yet none touch it. Ya'll have said mexico or Canada for the next record and that could be I think the best odss are on one of two indian reservations in NM just due to the mass protection of these hawgs. With all that said, I have seen a picture of a sure record breaker. This is one of those stories of old with a copy of a picture from way back in the 50's or so. but this guy has all the makings of a record breaker (non typical) exceptional tine length, actually unreal tine length. The biggest highest scoring buck I have ever laid eyes on. I will see what I can do to scan and post this picture. Unfortunately the copy I have is just a photo copy so it may not come out ok. If any of ya'll have pictures of world record rivals, please post.

i am sure there is still some typical and non deer alive here in NM! could be harvest by a hunter or natural cause!

i have seen some huge bucks but no tag...like always! u made a point! reservation! yes!!!

vinihunt

p.s. by the way..how r u! and how have u been doing! any sheds to show off?

i don't think the world record nt coues is even a coues. looks pure desert muley to me. as far as the others, i sorta feel like maybe there may be more than just one world record wandering around. they're just off in some canyon that is seldom breached by men with guns and stay there. when and if the records are ever broken, they'll come from really remote, steep, thick country. not from the cedars. if they are taken, the guy that does it will be rich. if i had the new b&c record jump up in front of me and got it, i might even be enticed to let em measure it up. so that i could sell it too cabela's or bass pro and retire.

hes out there Probably in canada, maybe private land...It is nasty man eatin country and he is probably completely noucturnal, he has a few does but lives in an area with few deer, no roads, no trails, no pressure! At least we all gotta think so it makes the hunt exciting

I'd have to agree that here in NM, the reservations may provide that opportunity.

I have to believe he's out there. And I think he could be anywhere. World records are the exception rather than the rule no matter what gene pool they come out of . At least, that's what I keep telling myself since I don't have enough preference or bonus points to draw the tags where I really think he is.

as for the buck that was poached down south, are you talking about the West Texas Buck that was poached last year? He was a monster.

Great Post. You guys are already making me anxious for the fall.

I think that it will be hard to beat the typical world record. There havent been any deer that has come within 9 4/8 of an inch of it.I also think that the non typical will be hard to beat because there havent been any deer to challenge it in 75 years. I think that Colorado will have the next typical record and possibly Canada for the non typical.

I don't know about the world record. Something tells me the Colorado state "muzz" record is pretty beatable though! :)

i hope so and i hope to find him.
when i was a kid back in the 70's there was the biggest buck i have ever seen living by aladden wyoming.
kings got a picture of him and me and some freands saw him two weeks before the season. we let him walk and planed on getting him on opening day.
we never saw him and the next fall he was back, and the fall after that and so on the last time we saw him he was much smaller and looking like s sway back mule the next fall he never returned.

Rick, I promised the gentlemen that I spoke with that I wouldnt reveal the location, however the deer was a typical with a 46+" spread and very heavy. The game officials had been watching this buck for some time when it was poached and say that there are a few more that are approaching the same size..................rf

I believe, and i'll bet i have scene a couple that were damn close.
never ever never on the hunts though, their toads for a reason.
and they well probabley die of old age.

Well, I haven't been back here in awhile. But I'll add my 2 cents anyway. I definately think that there are both records out there somewhere. You know when your out hunting, and just look from your vantage point, and just see wilderness in front of you forever and ever? Well, I believe the records are places that haven't even been hunted yet. Some remote place that is so far back in, that well, you get the idea. A perfect example is Canada. There's untold miles of "unexplored" country up there.

I do believe somewhere there is a walking world record. Typical and nontypical. I dont believe there is many as people would like to think.. I think someone will come across the sheds way before the buck alive.

I was told by a fishcop that when they did a winter survey a few winter ago in SE Co. They saw 2 Huge bucks that if shot by a hunter would be new state records, and they was only a few miles a part in a area that they(same herd of deer) wintered in every year. They said they migrate out of Ut in to Co each year.So we know they are close to the border of Ut and Co. They wouldn't tell just where but gave a few hints to the general area (100 sq miles).

Thats interesting because the co. state record for typical just happens to be the world record. I am in aggreement that the typical can be dethroned. 226 1/8 dont seem to difficult to top, but it has held for near 30 years now. Whoever dethrones this monster, I sure hope, is a magnificent hunter and has one hell of an awesome story. I dont want to hear that he was shot from the road or some kid happened across him. I hope it is a story of survival and craziness, just to add to the drama.

I know what your saying with the Burris Buck and Lee's Meat buck those 2 are hard to beat. I do believe the fish cops when they said they saw 2 bucks that would break the record, Heck even if they are close to that record, those are some huge deer. If I remember right the Lee's buck is from that neck of the woods.

The burris buck was taken in southwest co. Dolores county. which is only a couple hrs drive from where I live. exciting sort of. The mass introduction of texans to colorado since then has really cut the odds of these bucks reaching full maturity. I used to have a honey of a private hole in sw colo. but the huntin has really gone to crap in the last 10 years I dont even hunt it anymore. I think colo. has wised up some but has a ways to go yet before really building up an exceptional herd again.

Nevada what Cass,Everyone know there is no big deer in Nevada.
The bucks we are talking about are both Colo. bucks.

I can tell you one thing for sure. Three years ago during the archery hunt I had the typical world record 80 yds. from me. The trees were just to thick to get a shot off, but what a sight. With out a dought he would have been around a 230 typical. He was absolutly un-real to see. The crazy thing about it is there was a three point with him that would have netted close to 200 itself. You can think I am crazy if you want, but trust me I can judge a deer awfully dang close. I have 3 bucks in the top 100 in Pope and Young and both of these made them all look like babies.

I put my bets on Wyoming or Colorado, Idaho could do it if they had better management in some of their premier areas. I wouldn't overlook OR either.
