Colorado leftover tag

I bought a 3rd season leftover buck tag for areas, 12, 13, 14 and 24 and have never hunted any of these units but since it was my only chance at a buck this season I decided to go for it. Has anyone hunted tany of the these units? Just wondering what the terrain is like and if there a chance for a decent buck?

I've hunted 12 and spent some time in 24. The terrain is whatever you want...from steep, heavily wooded Sleepy Cat area to the sagebrush 5 miles north of there. The deer population is good, but the hunter population is high. I haven't hunted deer there, but saw quite a few while elk hunting. Saw some good but not spectacular bucks. I'd say if you are picky you can get a fair buck, especially if the snow has driven them down to the sagebrush and you get another snow during the season. It IS pretty country.

The hunter density is what makes this area a backup for me, only if I can't draw a good unit.

Just came back from my 2nd season hunt. Just startin to get some snow fall up there so 3rd season should see some snow up there. I stayed mostly around Buford but there were too many hunters....about 2 or 3 on each mountain. The deer were holding way up on the mountains and hadn't gone down to the sage much. Saw lots of does but very few bucks worth while. I didn't try the northern parts of these units but it may be worth while to check out. Good luck and hope this helps. By the way...I'll be eatin' tag soup this year. Maybe next year!
