13 points for Co

My son and I both have 13 points for Co. Been in touch with a couple of outfitters but none need as many points as we have. It looks like we have too many for a lot of places and no where near what we need for others.

Yeah I started putting in for my son when he was 12.At the time 12-15 points got you a higher end spot, now all you are doing is chasing points. Am taking him to Wyoming next year ,so by the time all is said and done we will have another couple of points for Co.Maybe I will have him save his and he can go along as an OTC hunter with me and maybe someday he will have enough points for a trophy area. He is a OK hunter but hoping his drive will increase with a trip out west.

You?re honestly at a point of no mans land and you will most likely spend the rest of your lives trying to catch the point creep of the NW corner units. If going outfitted is an option unit's 20 and 40 would be on my radar.

It seems that this is a common theme for many people. I have 17 nr and can almost get a average elk hunt now. Never thought it would come to this as less that 20 points is low and maybe look at a 300 class elk. I live in ID so that is not appealing to me. Guess we will keep funding the F&G for awhile.

I now have 14 pts. Been chasing creep for about the last 6-7 years. I can see the writing on the wall. Burning my points next year on a unit that takes far less points. It seems I get farther away from drawing every year! At my age I can no longer wait.

I will no longer play the points game. When you think about it, how dumb is it to wait 20+ years to go hunting? Especially in Colorado; a state that could literally have 190 class bucks in just about any unit??

My advice? Hunt NOW. Life goes on( so does death ). Who knows what might happen in the next year??

Yup can no longer wait. Next year we are off to Wyoming for his 1st elk hunt so maybe 2021 or 2022 use up the points for Co and then do OTC cows and such if my health holds out. Just being out in elk country is an experience for back east guys.

> You are absolutely right!! Live it while you can. With those points, I would try unit 21 2nd or 22 third
Good Luck!!

I drew 61 archery elk in ?07? with 13 points. 61 3rd season deer in ?08?.

Said never again. Too many other good hunts in Colorado, mostly for small bulls, but IMO any archery bull is a good bull.

Then I started hitting tags in other states and except for a ?2010? family elk slaughter we did, I now have more elk points than i?ll ever need. I only get the elk point every other year now but plan on using them next year for a 2 point hunt.

The advice to just hunt is good advice IMO.

Well that is what we will do. Next year we have a Wyoming hunt, his 1st western hunt. Hopefully 2022 we will go to Colorado with whatever we can get a decent price on.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-19 AT 02:51PM (MST)[p]I'm sitting at 18 points and will wait another 10 or so years I think (I'll be 57 then). I usually end up drawing other tags in other states every year and don't NEED to draw CO elk in order to hunt. Last year I had four tags (two deer, one pronghorn and an oryx tag) and filled them all. This year I have four pronghorn tags and two deer tags.

Last year I burned a pile of points on a CO archery hunt and walked away with a great buck. For elk I'm hoping simple attrition reduces applicants over the next 10 years. I'm also hoping CO DOW takes a couple more units out of the OTC management and makes them draw hunts.

That's right! Hunt as much as you can.. NOW! There's a great choice of point hunts and OTC all over North America. No reason one should wait to Hunt. Bh1

I shot this in a unit that takes 2 points. Don?t wait. Go hunt.

Very nice bull. We are going to Wyoming next year so if my son craves the Rockt mt hunting we will do Colorado in 2022.
