Archery Couse in GMU 24 New Mexico

I am a NM resident and I thought trying out Couse deer sounded pretty cool. Only issue is I have no idea at all about where to find them. When it comes to scouting for them I know that my limits are within unit 24 and the National Forest. I also know that they are in pockets and not all over the unit. So I'm just asking if someone will give me an idea on what area to start at for example, should I start around Georgetown, Mimbres, etc. I know the draw results are not out yet but I put in separately with a friend so I am sure one of us will get a tag. Thanks guys!

You and your buddy will probably both have a tag, as there are almost always left over archery tags in 24.

I'm trying them out for the first time this year myself. Really looking forward to it. I'm pretty sure I drew a 23 Coues rifle tag via the backdoor method a few days ago.

I'll be willing to trade information if I come across any.

I wish I had some good info regarding unit 23 for you. A lot of times deer hunting for me is the alternative to when I do not draw an elk tag. In 2013 I drew rifle deer in 23 (outside the Burrows) which was the same date as my Ibex hunt. No guess there on which hunt I went on

I got a buddy at work that is from Silver City, I can ask him about it if in fact that is the tag you drew.

Pretty sure there are some in 24. No idea on that unit tho.
I ran into more Coues than Mulies in 23 last year, a couple would make some list....

Yea we drew out on 24 Couse deer. We also drew archery elk in 51, so ill hit up the couse in January and elk in September. Not gonna have much time for scouting on the Couse hunt though. May have to go in blind and just enjoy the trip. Hopefully ill have a bull in the freezer though.
