Cache north/south LE elk

I'm looking for some suggestions on which unit/hunt I should apply for. The non-resident draw odds aren't too bad especially for the late rifle and muzzeloader hunts. I realize the Cache units are probably the lower tier units as far as LE elk go but I'm just looking for a fun hunt with an opportunity to chase bulls during the rut with a muzzeloader or early rifle tag.

I drew an Oak Creek LE tag back in 2009 with one point. This was before it became a general hunt. I ended up killing a good bull on opening morning and am looking for an opportunity like that again. Here is a pic of my 09 Oak Creek late bull! I was told by a lot of folks to shoot the "first" bull I seen.....so I did :)

Cache units are more difficult than most units. I have never been on oak creek but the south cache i would think is a step up. Plenty of elk on the south but dont expect a giant. A 320 bull is a good bull. Most will kill a bull 250-280. The North is a lot worse. There are big bulls but very few. Without a lot of scouting you probably should not pass up a decent 5. Good luck.

Agreed with what was said. South Cache is a pretty good unit with a good amount of bulls 320 bull isn't an unrealistic goal. The North however has got much much tougher. Not great amounts of elk especially big bulls. I wouldn't use many points on the North Cache.

I hunted the North Cache Muzzy last year off a landowner tag I won. Hunted all but one day. Was the toughest Elk hunt- I've taken my share with the bow and knew the unit well. South Cache had elk bugling many of the days and didn't find a bull until last two days in North Cache and dink on that. North Cache is by far the bottom of the Limited Entry tags and need to have a horse. South Cache had limited entry guys willing to shot spikes.

Scouting I meet a rifle hunter on next to last day on North Cache and he had not see a bull or an elk whole season. He burned nine points on it and was extremely disappointed.

Yeah that sounds pretty rough for an $800 non resident tag. I might be better off waiting on a better unit. Thanks

again, agreed with what was said, although if you want to have fun with your bow, look into the north cache, my buddy killed a 300 bull last year with his bow. also, if your willing to spend that much money on an elk tag, why not hunt idaho? or wyoming? you could hunt more often than wait for a tag? just a thought.

I like you 2009 bull.

Cache north is a horrible unit; however, once in a while someone does kill a big bull on there. That said people kill big bulls on general units in Utah.

Cache south has a lot of elk, but the quality is not as good as it used to be. I tried to cash in my points as a resident when I was living in Logan on a muzzleloader tag and I couldn't draw. Now I am a non-resident with 13 points going into this years draw and Cache South is not worth that many points.
