Just seeking a little info for my dad. He drew area 113 for elk. I was wondering if anyone has any info on it or maybe an outfitter in that area. Any info would help

That is a great tag to have, there are some really big bulls, and it only has a
draw every two years. Lots of private, and the only outfitter i know of is SNS out of Casper. I'd call the outfitters office to see if any one else outfits that area.

I spent a great deal of time researching that unit prior to the draw. There is quite a bit of scattered public land through the unit. It is super open country with quite a few roads. As you can imagine the elk get spooked pretty hard once the rifle season opens. From what I heard from several guys that knew the unit the archery season can be pretty good but can be mighty tough during the rifle season. There is a mine that has a chunk of land that is off limits to hunting. You can probably guess where the elk head once pressured during the rifle season? There are quite a few elk in the unit and obviously not all of them head to the mine...but it can be somewhat tough with rifle.

There are 2 or 3 guides in that unit. Do a web search and you should be able to find them. I spoke to 1 of them and emailed another one. They have access to scattered private land where a few elk may hang out but nothing compared to the mine. The unit is only open every other year....or so, so you may have a chance at a nice bull but it isn't going to be a cake-walk like some may think!

The guy that runs SNS is a prick to hunters who aren't being outfitted by him, so I would 1) never use him as an outfitter, and 2) watch your public/private boundaries closely.

Yep; Sy is a real tool!

Thank you for the information sure appreciate it. I will look into outfitters in that area. Should be a good hunt either way

How long you got to hunt and how far away do you live? Back when deer was general there, we saw plenty of elk on public land glassing for bucks.
