So i found a really nice, big bee nest. Some sort of nasty yellowjacket suckers. Any bright ideas on how i should go about evicting the occupants and preserving the nest for use in some future taxidermy?

Is it the gray sorta cone shaped paper type ? Try a smokey citronella candle to smoke em out and away from the nest only if safe to do without burning the forest down. Excellent taxidermy prop

Yeah, thats the type. Its about basketball sized, and hanging right at eye level. Forest fire danger is extremely high right now. Dont think its a good idea to be playing with a candle in the woods.

Hornets nest , get some flying insect killer and spray the entrance hole at dark and repeat again if they are still flying around

Go at night. Put a heavy duty garbage bag around it and drop a bug bomb inside. The type used for de-bugging a house work fine on all wasps and hornets.
Tie the bag tight around the branch it is attached to and saw the branch off the next day , or after it's all quiet in the bag.
Spray the nest with a matte finish acrylic to seal it and make it more durable.
