I'm all for someone making a little extra money, but the price seems a little steep to me.

$24.95 a year
I used to pay AZ G&F $75 a year for their computer generated report that they now post on their website. Pre-website posting, the information was worth its weight in gold and I was all to glad to pay because I knew very few other people had the information.
This actually seems like a decent value, especially with the new features. I will probably join and if I don't think it is worth it, I will not join again.
I'm kind of a numbers and statistics junkie so I'm sure I will find some value in it.

I sure liked it the way it was,one of the reasons I've been here.I won't be paying for that. I can get my local info and crunch numbers, and have another source for out of state. I understand reasons and not that much, but it cuts into already depleted funds for out of state hunts in this economy.My piece of the pie just got smaller.

Have any of you looked at www.biggamedrawodds.com? Its a new draw odds site. It combines all the draw odds data spreadsheets from the years into one page. It allows you to see max points needed, how many people apply each year, how many people you are competing with at your level, and more. If you are a numbers or data person, it looks to be a good tool to use. It is up to date with all Utah draw odds and will grow more as they compile more data from other states. It is a different way of looking at the odds but is still a great tool.

Too bad MM is willing to step up to pay to keep the feature on the site. I'm sure it is what drove a lot of traffic here. Top 3 reasons people visit MM. Draw odds, pics, forum in no particular order.
With all the Vortex & Chevy ads you would think MM could afford it or at least see why it would be important to keep driving traffic to the site. Probably a good time for Muley Madness or some other perceived lesser forum to pick up the option to drive some traffic.

I always like when something of value is free. Who wants to pay for me to get odds so I can benefit without opening my wallet? The odds used to be here so I deserve the odds. Odd want to be free, dang it.
I suppose I should thank MM for allowing me to use the odds for free for several years. No, that is not how things works. I prefer to see the glass half empty.
Realistically, going forward there will be a cost for a maintained, searchable odds service that covers several states. A group of us that want access to odds could each take a state and agree to update it and someone else could host the service that has all the odds we gather. That is a lot of volunteer work and some of us are not good with details or we get busy or get bitter more folks are not helping gather the odds and soon would be an outdated mess, imho.
I propose a solution that could work. MM could work a deal with the odds guy that allows MM account holders to pay a discounted amount to access the odds here at MM. Our login would determine if we are paid up for the odds and if so then that tab is active for us when logged in.
Would be convenient for us to have odds back here, help push traffic to MM and also provide another sales channel for the guy selling the odds.
Or MM could hire someone to gather the odds and then charge for access.
The times, they are a changing.

I think Hunterstrailhead.com is the best and easiest to navigate odds data site out there. I think $25 is more than fair for what you get. I am even a member of huntinfool ($100/year) which has an odds data link and i dont like it nearly as well. It would be sufficient but its just harder to read and just tougher to navigate for me. Hunterstrailhead has other features and benefits than just what has been available here on mm too. You can really drill down on your options and compare units. It gives access to lists of hunters that have hunted the areas, success rates, public land access and maps, stuff that would take hours to compile on your own. There are some pretty good hunting opportunities like landowner vouchers and stuff too. I have been a member for a long time and to me, it is a must have in my planning each year. Maybe if i only hunted my home state I could get by w/o it but i try to do one out of state hunt per year and build points in 5 states. For the price of a 1/3 tank of gas, worth it to me. I too admit I am a odds junkie. I love plugging in data and running scenarios and strategizing. I was a big fan of the odds book when it came out and then it went to the next level and became hunterstrailhead it has added features and gotten better and better every year. Jon was way ahead of the game and these odds literally changed the way I strategize and apply so i personally hope he reaps some reward from this change so he can keep improving it even more. I love mm and will still visit for the great forums and pics but for odds, pretty weak sauce now.

I did pay for the odds data that was here. I paid every year. I still would if the option was available at the same cost. The draw odds made up about 3% of the pageviews and traffic here on the site per year. I served about 1-1.5 million pages per year in the odds section. I guess that's why I'm not super eager to try and create something myself......there ain't no money to be made by providing the service for free. I broke about even each year after paying for the service.
For MonsterMuleys.com, ya it's a bummer that the service went away from you guys, but there is nothing that can be done. Jon offered me the option to keep the pay service on my site, but I still had to pay for it, plus charge you all the full price to use it, which in the end made no sense to me.
In the end, the demand really wasn't that great for the service when it was free anyway, it can only get worse when asking people to pay.
The vast majority of hunters in the world don't hunt but one or two hunts and year, so paying for draw odds probably isn't high on their list. I think it's a select few who really "need" to look at lots of odds data for many different states. That's my opinion anyway. And, I'm betting that the different state agencies out there will begin building better systems of delivering the odds data, rather than just dumping them in a PDF file.

Content on this site consists of what I mentioned prior one of which were draw odds. Now you go to look at draw odds on this site, for Utah for instance, and you get data compiled in different links from the Utah dwr site. Basically, not seamless like it was before.
Founder understands it takes a lot of traffic to keep this site up and no matter how funny or lame sometimes the conversations can get on the "forum" it still may not be enough to drive traffic so that is why he works hard to post new pics all the time and then goes right to forums to let everyone know that he has posted them- in other words to drive interest and keep people interested in the site is a constant battle. He already has the guys that have been coming here for years and that in and of itself is work to keep them, but it's much harder to attract new guys.
