AZ 13B Antelope

I drew a 13B Strip tag and it was an unforgettable
time! We didn't see a lot of antelope because it's
been raining in there like mad for the past few weeks
and the water holes were all full to the brim. They
were spread out everywhere. We saw about 10 a day and
the buck/doe ratio was unbeleivably high. I honestly
saw better bucks walking the foothills in the cedars
than the valleys. I have a new respect for these
guys. They WILL NOT let you get within 400 yards
before busting. Also, the "roadhunt" I expected
turned into a lot of walking in 100 degree heat.

Any ways, after missing a little taller buck on the
opener, this guy went down on day two. He's 6-7 years
old and the taxi said he grosses right at 80" He's
about 6" at the bases, 14-15" on the beams. I love
goats now!

FYI- Of course, being on the Strip we did look for
muleys and found a herd of 5 TOADS that let us sneak
within 100 yds of them. No Booners but a couple that
would gross 190ish and a cool one-horned cactus buck!

Nice goat! Sounds like a fun and exciting hunt. With only a double handful of points, I'll be applying for a while still, but will get to hunt them eventually. I'd be very happy with one like yours.

I know this is terrible to admit but I have only lived in AZ for two years and I drew it on my second try. I am from UT and can get a deer tag every year, and an atelope every two or three there. I have a ton of respect for the patience and management of AZ residents and the AZGF. You guys really value the resource out here.

Also, the AZGF 13B unit manager was one the most professional, helpful guys I've ever met.

I can't wait to draw again in 2025!

Was that Luke? I havent talked to him in a while. He's a great guy. I did a drinker project up there with the ADA and Luke was there with us the whole time. I need to get ahold of him and chat.
