I took this bull yesterday in WA, 160 class bull
MOOSE-2.png

amazingly the bull is 41" odd paddles, head on the paddles are completly in line! they almost bend a 90 deg after brow and go straight back.I think this came from where he lived , super thick! paddles wouldnt grow out, the paddles are 33" and 35" and almost 11" wide

that is A/C/C arrow lol good catch, one of the arrows I hit him with, 57 and 62 yard shots both double lung 3" apart pass thru's one burried in a stump, bull only went 6 yards and collapsed, shuttle T locs rock. All on film too, we have a upcoming DVD coming out this year

Packout was not bad, used quads and a trailer, only up hill for 70 yards

A bull doesn't grow a different configuration of horns just because he lives in trees. That's evolution over time and genetics. Other bulls from the herd you hunted in the trees grow to 55" wide or so. Nearly all moose in WA and Idaho live in thick timber.

it hasnt been officially scored has it???
A yeah they do, talk to a biologist, same with elk, heavy timber elk grow narrow elk racks. Its all about where they spend there spring summer

You tell me ... you posted the score??? but since it hasn't been scored OFFICIALLY yet I'll be the first to go out on a limb and give ya 144" max ... Nice bull for sure!!! but it's not the 160 you want it to be and not the State record you claimed you were going to shoot either but a great bull for the area you were hunting! Makes you wish you would have put in for the area where you found the 200" sheds huh?

I have a degree in wildlife biology... An individual animal can't change the form of its rack from year to year based on where it lives. The species can select over time for an area though. Your bull was born a narrow bull because it's mom and dad passed on those genes. Whether the parents and the other moose up the genetic line selected a narrow rack because of where they lived is up for debate. Like I said, moose in general aren't known for narrow racks in that area.

I think its a solid 140 class bull myself and a real trophy with archery gear. This pic is much better to judge the actual size.

Its a 140 class bull. NOT 160. Be happy with it. Its still a great trophy, and Pope is 100% right about the paddles. You shot a bull with a 41 inch spread. Far cry from your 200 inch bulls you were bragging about, but still a great trophy.

OOOOh Ouch, that hurts. LOL Hes matured a bit since then, but he still is over exaggerating his scores. LOL

I'd be happy with the bull personally. However, what I don't get and why I followed the moose thread was because, and I quote, your goal was a 170" moose. If your goal is a 170" moose, then why do you shoot a 140 class 41" bull on day 2 of the hunt? Even if it scored mid 150's like you state, it's still not close to your goal and you gave up on your goal day 2? Had your goal changed and you not informed us on your thread or did you think this was a 170" class bull? Sorry, just questions I had to ask.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-12-09 AT 12:16PM (MST)[p]That's classic believe me we havent forgot that post!!! As usual Shane gets very quiet when called out on his BS. like I said before to several people this would be a great Moose had he kept his mouth shut about shooting a State record and potential World Record!!! Face it Shane you did exactaly what you critisized others for doing ... I was the first to say it on several forums it's a nice 144 bull max!
I do have questions for you though ... that is if you have the nads to come back on and answer them ...

First~ After Pope informed you that you were measureing the legnth wrong on another forum why did you come over here on MM and post it as a 160 class bull?

Second~ If you see 2 or 3 50 inchers everytime out why did you shoot a 41 incher??? I watched Phool pass several in this same class last year!!!

Third~ If you knew where there was a 200 incher why didn't you put in there??? And if he was in the unit you put in on why didn't you hold out and find him for the World Record?

Well since you won't do it I tried to answer some of my own questions but I only came up with more questions than answers??

Your quotes:

"I am in the 3 forks unit all of the time, you couldnt tag a big bull? give me a break.I see 2 or 3 50" bulls every time I am in there. The bull in the road I wouldnt even consider a shooter in that unit.Sounds like a lame hunter to me"

"Nope not to me, If I draw a tag here I will shoot a state record and hopefully a world record.A set of sheds found here on June 3 are on there way to be scored as the new world record sheds, they also found another set similiar but a little smaller. My buddy has a set that scored around 200". If it was down to the last 2 days I would shoot that bull.People see pics of moose harvested, most tag holders shoot the first bull they see or they do not scout enough to know what is running around here.I see monster bull moose around here all of the time,I know where a monster is right now in the huckleberry unit.I cant even begin to grasp the concept of hunting 30 days and couldnt shoot a big bull, all I have to say is WOW and what a disappointment for the hunter."

"Where do you guys live? West side of the state, that would explain it all.You guys act like moose hunting is hard.Another question have you ever hiked the mountains in the selkirk,49 and huckleberry? There isnt a trip to these mountains where i dont see big bulls.200 inches is being fair,if you want would you like his e-mail? maybe you could talk to him yourself. The sheds found this year are 240+ and I have seen them in person. Its ok to be jealous. "

Looks like you forgot to take your own advise and you forgot to put in for the right unit??? Insert foot in Mouth here!

And yes I am from the West side but at least I know what a 140 bull looks like!

QUIET?? I was out hunting unlike you arm chair hunters. This bull has everything for a 160 plus bull, the width killed him the bull is over 150 trust me lol. jealous hunters as usual. My goal was a 160 or better bull with a BOW, the bull is damn close. WIDTH isnt everything! like some on here all they care about, we saw 2 bulls 50 " wide, but with 5" paddles and single brows, oh wait maybe I shoulda shot those cause it was 50" lol Have I seen bigger bulls in my day hell yeah, I had a goal, this met it, never pass up what your goal is. Whats funny is a select few that have drawn tags on a different site, hunted their asses off in what they call the "better units" and claim to be photographers, but never even set eyes on a bull in how many days hunted lol? too funny, I was out in my crummy unit and had opportunity at 157 and took this one In 2 days!!!!, pretty damn funny if ya tell me. Real damn funny, I couldnt even imagine having the 49 or selkirk tag and dragging it out like that, or having the issues they had to kill a 150 bull, pathetetic. Jealousy is sad boys, one day you might accomplish some of the goals I have met at 30, u are still striving for at what age? lol

As usual Shane you resort to name calling ... Really? Nobody here has made insults or called you any names we only asked the questions based on your own statements. And BTW I still have allways said you have a great bull there to be proud of but may remind you that you said you would shoot a State record or potential world record and that your goal was a 170 and now you claim the goal was 160 or better??? Now if I were to make those claims (which BTW werent the only ones you made) and shot a bull such as yours I would expect some of the same questions to be asked??? It has nothing to do with Jelousy it has to do with your attitude ... you claim you have accomplished so much at the age of 30 with your hunting career but one thing you forgot to do was grow up!

Kinda makes you wonder about some of his other "claims to fame".

Shane,

This is my first and probally only response to this thread.

Take some advise from a fellow hunter who has a couple years on you.

For God sake, "LET IT GO !!!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-09 AT 04:51PM (MST)[p]Just a bit of advise Shane, I don't think anyone is jealous. Most questioning the score have shot bulls as big or bigger so that's not an issue. I think a few people were asking for a real answer to the following questions:

1. You state in this thread your goal was a 170 bull. Why did you shoot a 140-150" bull (or a 157" according to you) on day 2 if your goal was a 170" bull? Was there not any bigger bulls in the unit? You criticized others for this so it would be reasonable to expect the same questions about your bull.

2. Your measurements seem suspect to many. If you don't care about them then that's fine. However, if you are going to quote them and use them then they should be correct. I think many would like to see this bull scored. If it was scored and you posted the score sheet I think it would shut everyone up. Not only that, many want it scored because you state it's the WA state record. Many have an interest in a potential state record bull.

Why do I get the feeling this bull will never be officially scored?

Be careful Pope, you are setting yourself up for a barrage of nasty, incoherent, threatening and accusatory personal messages from him.

Would love to hear some answers Shane. For a guy that knows moose, you might understand how your score doesn't quite add up, especially in another thread where you mentioned net and gross. If you gander at your bull it doesn't take an experienced eye to note how much stronger one side is than the other. I would assume that there might be more of a gap between the two. I did the math and I am giving 3 more inches than Mray. Ifigured 147. Gave you 2 more inches jsut for your ego. Does Pope and young have that on their score sheet? By the way, its not from jealousy as I have three bigger bulls on the wall. The lengths you are reporting are obviosuly measured wrong. Giving credit to an animal is awesome, but in a way bragging and exaggerating and an acute lack of humbleness will do nothing but discredit that awesome animal.

Answering the questions would mean he would have to admit he is wrong and as human as all others he criticised! Not to mention we might actually think a little more highly of him for doing it!

Think a little more highly? not likely!!!! Until he apologizes for the BS comments he made about the hunter from that other thread, I will continue to think he is the lying, horses ass he has made himself out to be. His comments were rude, rancorous and just plain unkind. Nope, if it looks like a turd and smells like a turd, its likely a turd.

Maybe he is Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo?

I am not into name calling, and I think it is an incredible moose by any standards,
but I could not help but notice the disparity in size in the different pictures, kinda makes me think of "long arming" fishing pictures.
All that aside, I respect the fact you legally and ethically harvested a mature moose with 2 well placed shots and most likely had an awesome hunting trip, too bad this nonsence seems to be takeing some of the joy out of it.
I wish and hope to get the opportunity someday.
Shane, congratulations on harvesting a bull moose with archery equipment.
I have been following your hunt on another site and am jealous.
I dream of someday harvesting an animal half that size.

It is a nice bull, too bad he had to lie and be such a douche about the whole thing, but we have come to expect that from him.

This is quite an entertaining thread! Its a nice trophy, but I have lived long enough to watch the boasting about my kills, and NEVER start bragging before the hunt!
