Randy Johnson/sheep guide

No he does not.
One heck of a sheep guide! He has a great packet of information he sends to potential clients.

The great Utah Randy Johnson that hunts sheep is much better at what he does than "The Big Unit" was in baseball...although in his day, I believe our own Randy was also quite a baseball player! At any rate, they are both in their respective "Hall of Fame" (Baseball and Full Curl)
Having said that, our "Utah Randy" is also one heck of a guy that would do almost anything for anybody.
Now don't go accusing me of having a "Man Crush"! gesh!

He hides on this forum once in a while, and if you are interested in contacting him PM me for information.(after all I am one of his biggest fans!)

+1 to all the above. Randy and his team know Utah Deserts better than anyone around. They also know a thing or two about Rocky's. I've had the chance to hunt both with them and would do it again without hesitation.

There are some great guides in Utah but Randy is at the top of the list. I think he actually has some Desert sheep in his DNA!!!!

If you step foot in Randy's office. You will know why he is the best Desert sheep guide in utah. He has pictures of trophy ram's covering every inch of his walls.

I think if you asked Randy he would admit that Greg Bird is the Best Sheep guide in the State

Greg has guided both current state records for Rocky's and Deserts, he has over 125 sheep kills under his belt and his experience is not just limited to Utah.

Greg has guided several giant rams in AZ, CA and NV and consistantly produces the biggest sheep in Utah year after year. I would dare bet he has killed more 170 plus deserts than the rest of us sheep guides in Utah combined.

I have had the oportunity to hunt with most of the sheep guides here in the state. There is no one that even comes close to Greg's ability to find sheep, judge sheep and get them on the ground. He is a freak of nature!

Though others may get the recognition the quite Greg Bird reigns supreme.

This is no dish on Randy. Randy & Brett do a good job and have taken alot of sheep. But if you are looking for the best it is Greg. He is what the rest of us sheep guides dream of becoming one day!!!!!!!

Troy

I have been out Scouting and Hunting with Randy and Brett they are both very good sheep guides and great guys they would do a great job.
I do not know Greg but if Troy says he is good then I have no question he is.

BTW: Troy is being a little modest. He's in the upper-class too.

Zeke

Disclaimer: I have never hunted with any of them but know "of" and have talked with them and have seen their successes.

"Greg has guided several giant rams in AZ,"

X-treme, I'm helping some fellow sheep nuts collect pictures of giant rams that have been killed in AZ for an up coming book. If you or Greg have any pics that you guy's would like to share for the book let me know and I'll get you the contact details.

Not only am I interrested in the AZ rams, I would love to hear about the giant CA rams as well. CA has some of the best sheep hunting around and a couple great outfitters. I would like to see the pics and hear a story. Please do tell!

mesquitehunter,
I got a picture today of a very nice AZ ram from Randy Johnson on his regular hunting post. It was killed by a guy named Jim Hens. If you don't have it, I will see if Randy has the OK to pass it on.
I would also love to see your book of great AZ rams. I am thinking the sheep must drink steroid water down there!

I have heard some very good things about Randy. Troy and I would love to get that pic to Tom ASAP. Do you have any story on it?

LB, I'm not writing the book, I'm along with other's are helping these two individuals collect pics of some the big rams killed in AZ from years past. These two guys already have a tremendous amount of time and money invested in this project already. There's still a dozen pics or so that have been rather difficult to find. Most of them are some of the earlier rams killed. Maybe I'll make a new thread listing the missing pics that these guys need.

BTW where do I find Randy's general post? I'd like to see it.

The ram photo, that Randy sent out, looks like a Old Mexico ram to me.
Did it come from AZ?

Zeke

^^Also very interested in seeing this ram...am curious as well if Hens used his archery gear, and what the ram scored

Thanks

Here's an Email I recieved a little bit ago regarding the Hens ram. I copied and pasted it-

"I just got one of those photos from Jay Scott yesterday?..Jim Hens with a big desert in Mexico. I think it was this winter. He also took the archery world record in New Mexico with Double H a few years ago."

Ya, the ram had the Old Mexico look to me.
Thanks Mesquitehunter for the info.

I thought Randy said it was an AZ ram, but actually it does not say where the ram came from, or what equipment was used.
Damn drug store reading glasses, anyway LOL.

Duh... winning.....BIG!
Sorry GW, I couldn't resist using my best "charlie sheen" on you.

Zeke

sorry Zeke bud, i'm a bit thick...i have no idea what that means^

how big is mexi ram? does it appear to be, say, better than 178 6/8?

no mention of, say, any mystical flights of the arrow?

:)

hey also, is he rusty horned and droopy?

No Prob on the humor thing.

Yup, the ram is rusty horned and really droops below the jaw-line. The bottom of the inside loop is even below the jaw! If I had youe email I'd forward it on to you.

Zeke

I'm way down on the totem pole when it come to getting pics emailed to me LOL. It seems I gotta ask someone for a pic. I don't have a pic. I just got an email in regards to an earlier post I made along with LB's post.

Winning! The Charlie Sheen thing was funny Zeke! LOL I got it! GW is not a bit thick...Rather very thick!LOL

OK boys,
Since this post was originally about Randy Johnson, if you want to email him your address, I am sure Randy would add you to his regular email list. He quite often posts hunting pictures (lots of sheep) for quys he knows. I am sure he would gladly add you to his list if you want. PM me and I will try to connect you to him.

Maddglasser, I'm glad someone saw the humor.

Greatwestern, I've actually formed my own high opinion of you. You're hardly thick bro! You are not shallow enough to get the stupid "charlie sheen" humor.

Back to Randy, He's a guy who always makes others feel like they are important. It's not an act. He's a very busy guy and he's always had plenty of time for little ole me. I've enjoyed every conversation with him. I'm sure littlebighorn feels the same way! We count him among our friends.

If it were me, I'd probably look real hard at booking a hunt with Wild Mountain Outfitters. Shawn Labrum drew one of the first Rocky Mountain Sheep tags released in Utah, took a nice ram and has been getrdone every since for his clients. At one time (and may still have), he personally had the number two desert bighorn that he took in this state, and has had plenty of clients take rams up near and above the 180 class.
