Has anyone hunted this unit and can maybe give me some specific locations where I can find them? I've e-mailed the Biologist with the DWR and he told me just to read the hunt planner on the DWR's website. I did and the site mentions a few areas which is nice but I'm looking for specific locations that I can pinpoint on a topo map or google earth. Any info would be great!!

Don't let the biologist give you the easy answer - call them and they will probably give you more specifics. It has worked for me in the past.

I wish I had hunted this area in the past and provide you more specifics myself.

I read the planner myself, and have not clue about the area.

There are at least 10 places to start hunting. Get out and scout it. There are 22 tags, no one is going to to give you GPS coordinates, and that is the only thing that can be more specific than what the planner has in it.

There are goats everywhere in that unit. You can hunt them from Christmas Meadows to Granddaddy Lakes and everywhere in between.

Find roads that get you as high as possible and hike in from there to high glassing points. You will see goats literally on every peak.

If you go back in this forum a few months there is another post asking the same question and I posted a couple of my video's of scouting and helping on another hunt from a few years ago. Well worth a watch if you want to get excited about what you're in for.

Cheers, Pete

I have hunted this unit myself and with several others and to be direct and not intending to be rude but you would have to be either blind or simply not willing or able to go for a hike to not see a goat in this unit. you can kill a goat, if you wish to hunt them like this, from your four wheeler! I personally prefer to hunt for them and get the amazing experience that the unitas offers.

good luck on your hunt and for heck sake pick a canyon and walk into it with your glasses and you will find goats.

My first suggestion, there are many posts on this site that include successful hunts for mtn goats in the Uinta's. Hopefully, you've already been doing searches for them.

I'd spent many years hiking and fishing many of the drainage's before I actually did my hunt for a mtn goat. You can find one in any drainage on either the north or south side.

The info you got from the UDWR will tell you areas to try but, anyone else who checks with the UDWR gets the same info. I used that info to check spots not provided by the UDWR so that I might be in places that less likely would have other hunters.

So, my next suggestion is to decide if there is a particular lake you'd like to fish and camp by and go there, start glassing and enjoy.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to spend a whole lot of time in the Uintas like I would of like to. I'm a Utah transplant and not as familiar with the Utah Mountains as compared with my home state of Idaho.

Do you have the tag or just looking for future? I saw a good billy this past weekend that was not to hard to get to and could give you GPS coord if you have a tag.

lol....
