Those pictures are amazing. I'm not a hound guy, but I wonder how hard it was to get the dogs off him/her...

Well this is a first here of something like that out hunting, great pictures and wonder too how the outcome was?

I know that Jaguars are on the endangerd species list. I bet the owner of the hounds was all excited to get to the tree... Then was extreamly surprised to what his hounds just caught! I hope to hear more about this one as well!!

I know a great houndsman from AZ treed a jag in the 90s'in southern NM. Theres a book about it now , if you posted this over in the cat and bear forum there would be a few guys that know who I'm speaking about. Those are some AWESOME pics...

Warner Glenn caught the Jaguar back in the 90's down in that country.

He's an outfitter down around southern AZ and NM. I know they slip up over the border now and then and a few guys down there have run into them.

Cool pictures!! Thanks for posting.

Are you sure Gentle Ben I thought that you could still go down there and hunt them. Just alot of people aren't doing it much. I don't know just curious if that is fact. I would love to hunt one of them someday. I read "Death in Silent Places" from Peter Capestick and I was hooked I think they would be a crazy fun animal to hunt.

Did a search at Google and this is what came up.

Jaguar - hunting, pictures
These are massive powerful animals that are well built, with deep-chested body and a large head. The coat of an animal is yellowish brown with dark brown spots in center-spotted rosettes. The animal can be found near water in savannahs and forests in all parts of North and South America of the United States. Domestic jaguar hunting is banned, yet it is allowed on private land and the pictures are available.

That is a beautiful cat.
Very respected and feared in Mexico, legendary and currently.
There are still parts down there where they roam and poor farmers will still kill them when they attack their livestock.

Ahhh to have lived in the good ol' days.

"Although the jaguar was put on the endangered species list in the 1970's, illegal trade and poaching still reduces numbers. Although there are conservation efforts, illegal activity continues to make the future of the jaguar uncertain"

I found this information on this web site:

Warner Glenn had a short book with photos about the one caught back in 1996. I don't have the book, but have seen a website where you can buy it. I don't know whether or not these are the pictures of it.

In March 2006 another Jaguar was caught by some people who were out hunting for lions down in Hidalgo county NM. There was a mention of it on the news here in Albuquerque and a story in the Santa Fe newspaper.
