Not saying I would or wouldn’t but if I did, those cameras would just be forever listed as MIA.
 
Well if they are illegal now removing is fine, IMO you should try and return their property. ARE they for sale. LOL

What should I do if I see a trail camera in use during the seasonal closure?​

Leave it alone and contact our conservation officers with the camera coordinates. Do not attempt to remove or damage the camera — it's someone else's property and may be in use legally.
 
While the regs no say to not touch them the old wb chair essentially condoned hunters removing cams left out illegally when discussing implementation of this law. Honest question - At what point is it considered abandoned property? If it’s out there legally for research purposes I’m sure it would be pretty easy to identify as such.

If I see any out and about I’d prob leave em be but would it be wrong to put a little mud over the camera to limit its ability without ruining it?
 
Dude did issue a warning.

I think everyone who is missing a can, should call the local DWR, give your name address, and telephone number, with a description of the cam.

That way, if one gets turned in, you can claim your cam, AND your citation.

Don't ***** about stealing, if you don't have cams out illegally, it's not an issue.

When Law enforcement label it as suchm...someone with a badge...lol not some random dude who probably drinks hard seltzers.
 
Having a cam up may be illegal, but you and I don't get to say when it's abandoned or not. We just follow the law, tell ACTUAL LE where it is and leave it alone. Doing anything with it, without a badge is thievery in my eyes
 
So they knowingly left a cam up 20 days late? Is that your defense counselor?

So you want the littering ticket waved but want to plead guilty to knowingly breaking the law on cams?

Law days trailer has to be moved, not checked, after 14 days. I'll assume that goes for all property

And who says they didn't move it 13 days ago??? I'm not saying they shouldn't be in trouble for having a cam out past the posted dates. All I'm saying is it's theft when some random dude takes your camera, because he is not legally allowed to enforce laws.

In your eyes, maybe. And that’s completely fair to have that opinion, even if I don’t agree. But not according to the law, the ACTUAL law. The ACTUAL law doesn’t declare it theft, it declares the cameras illegal.

Listen, I am not suggesting taking illegal cams that so many of you are defending and apparently okay with is a good idea. But the law does not say taking them is theft. And I assure you that anyone that takes them are not getting prosecuted for theft. No way that is happening in my opinion.

It's no different than taking a trailer thats been in a spot for more than the "14" days...it's theft...if you take a camera during the open season it's theft....no matter what. If you took someone's drugs THATS THEFT!! even if they are illegal or not lol if it's their property then you taking it is theft

It’s not just like taking a trailer. Not at all, actually.

Report one of your illegal trail cams that was removed to the DWR. See if they prosecute it as a theft. Let us know how it goes.

That is a large assumption.
Refer to a law that does not come with wheels and a bed.
Seeing how guys can have a camera up from January 1 to July 31.
Is it littering during that time of the year?

I referenced the law, no where is it specific about wheels or a bed.

I keep pointing it out, if I leave beer cans on the side of FS road, it's littering. We can be cute and claim I check them every 13 days, but it's littering.

I agree, it's an odd law.

But the WHY is reflected by guys in here.

Couldn't be a cam here or there.

Ever see pics of Doyle's battery change day? Hundreds and hundreds of cams.

Heard DC outfitting say he had over 100 just on the Bolder.

The law, SHOULD be leaving chunks of plastic in the forest is illegal year round.

But, the DWR tries to work with folks, and instead of it being, "awesome, got 6 months of cool pics", it's "I will exploit a gray area".

I don't know when dudes decided they can just leave **** laying in the forest because THEY are the exception.

The tweekers that steal extension cords off job sites then go up the hill and melt the plastic off to get the copper think they should get to leave chunks of plastic laying around too.
