Good grief guys, just looking to know which guides to look into. This will help me in deciding which unit to apply for. Yes, I realize the odds are way long. Not asking for a guaranteed kill or a booner. I've never hunted guided and thought this would or could be a great hunt to go guided on. So...

Exactly my thoughts. I rolled the dice on a 14 point unit with 12 points regular. I'm hoping most go special. Assuming I get thrown into the random pool, odds should be slightly better than special. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

I second this! And if non-res is such a high demand then I think those tags need to jump in price too. Part of the concern is that hunting shouldn't become a rich mans sport. One way to partially avoid this by keeping res prices more fairly priced however, the non-res tag prices could jump and...

Look for landowner tags. Expensive if you can find one but it is an "any and all legal route".

I always find a big buck when hunting bulls. This might just work out well for both of you!

Go scout between Sept. 10 and 20 with some calls. You'll find the elk! Not sure they stay in those same locations until the late season but it will give you a starting point and also give you an idea on quality to look for.

Don't get discouraged if you're not seeing much while scouting, the elk move in. I hope you're scouting to at least learn the roads and trails. Fun hunt!

I just verified with IDFG. It does allow youth to hunt the B season if they get the A tag and visa versa. They have to still hunt the unit/s that the tag is printed for though.

I don't know anything about 51 but a quick look at harvest stats on IDFG website and they look decent. https://idfg.idaho.gov/ifwis/huntplanner/stats/?season=general&game=elk&yr=2022

I'm not sure how to interpret that. Is there a basic "general elk" tag for youth that allows them to hunt any non-controlled hunt and does not account for limited quota tags? Or is this saying that they can hunt the A or B seasons regardless of the type of tag they pick up?
