    Hunting season is here!

Pretty awesome experience. I remember on a difficult hunt when I was learning I started to complain. My buddy who was teaching me, looked right at me and said “Shut the ____ up! This is hunting!” I never complained after that day lol.

    FCFS changes

I wonder how many people are logged in to FCFS “fishing” for tags at any given time. I think you pretty much have to just leave it open and stare at the screen waiting for something to pop up. I did this a week ago and finally saw something (I don’t think I will try this year to pick up...

    South Pequops Wilderness Area

    Thanks for the info.

    South Pequops Wilderness Area

A guy I work with who does all kinds of exploring (not hunting though) advised me to just pass through respectfully unless it’s gated or signed (then he said stay out/off) I haven’t been in NV very long but with where I’ve applied for deer (unsuccessfully) I’ve realized that I’m going to have...

    South Pequops Wilderness Area

I explored that hunt last year because of the better drawing odds. I researched “non-ruby” areas, but every post I read seemed to have someone say that the Rubies definitely had by far the most concentration. I read in one post that there are other areas of 101-109 that contain pockets of deer...

    South Pequops Wilderness Area

Anyone accessed this wilderness area before? It’s a wilderness area so I am familiar with what that entails as far as once you get there. It’s on my radar to check out this summer and my main issue is making sure I can access it. There looks to be a main road from the north, but it goes...

    171-173 Archery on foot

Hopefully someone responds with some info. I’ve been following this thread out of curiosity for this unit. From my own experiences with that style of hunting I would advise a lot of glassing. The type of glassing where you sit there and scan for way longer than you think is necessary. We used...

Fuel price and change to hunt plans?

I’m going to go about my regular plans. Tags are too hard to come by and I want to give myself a good chance to fill it. I will make cuts in other areas for now. The only way I would consider changing plans would be if I was guaranteed a tag every year. When I lived in remote AK gas was...

Nevada 78, 105-107, 109 Late Season Rifle Elk

Nope. I don’t think I have any info relevant to his particular hunt.

Nevada 78, 105-107, 109 Late Season Rifle Elk

Firedad is right on I think. I would download OnX or other hunting apps to get a feel for the area and the terrain. Also, to look at access. Then, I would read the biologist reports or look at the harvest data. This can tell you where people are harvesting. Then, you can come up with more...

    Ammo hard to find?

I’ve never been disappointed in the performance of a 30-06 brand or round that I’ve purchased for big game (moose, bear, muskox), but then again I never ask it to do too much. Ideally, everyone wants a one and done, but follow up shots are inevitable. I’m not the most skilled hunter or...

    Ammo hard to find?

I could be wrong but Norma is fairly new-ish (maybe not) My favorite is the Remington core-lokt 180 grain. I used this on moose (bull and cow). They never made it very far after a shot.

    Ammo hard to find?

Ammoseek.com puts out a list of vendors and their best prices for each caliber. It is just an ammo search engine. Prices for 30-06 are not very good at all right now. There is lots of 30-06 out there, but it is expensive (for me atleast) It is very difficult to find specific brands, bullet...

    Ammo$$$$$$$

My mentor hunters were all ammunition conservers due to availability and cost (remote Alaska). We rarely went out targeting “for fun”. Ammo was too expensive and hard to get (due to extra hazard fees to ship to remote AK). Every single round was precious. We tried to stretch every box of 30-06...
