    Too Many Elk

I was in a big brass meeting last month here in Maryland regarding deer crop damage, potential public access, and the basic reduction of WT deer in known "hot spots". The Sec of Ag, Assist Sec of DNR, biologist, stakeholders, farmers, and a few hunters from the sportsman group were in...

WTB: Older Factory Power Level II or III 300 RUM Scirocco?

anyone have any older Remington Scirocco Power Level 2 or 3 in 300 RUM? Feel free to give me a call. Even partial box is fine. On another note: Anyone have good review on the Barnes 165gr RUM bullet in a model 700 stainless?

Man, that’s awesome info. Much appreciated. That sort of scenario opens the country up for me.

    Unit 27 Late Elk-Packer with horse/mule?

Who thinks paying someone $500 (or more) to pack meat out lessens the DIY commitment? I’ve utilized several pack outs in my elk life, and I don’t regret any of them. My knee replacement 100 days ago speaks, to a certain extent, to the hundreds of high country miles I’ve put on my boots with a...

    Unit 27 Late Elk-Packer with horse/mule?

I live in Maryland actually. Every hunt I do is a pretty big commitment that starts years before the hunt. This hunt is coming up for sure....and Nov 2024 isn't too far off. Nevada?....I may simply be ready to follow someone and attempt to find peace and happiness along the way at that point. 17...

    Unit 27 Late Elk-Packer with horse/mule?

I may change my answer when/if I draw a NV bull tag!! But for now, in 2024, at 50 years old....I'm still in the game....but not for much longer!

    Unit 27 Late Elk-Packer with horse/mule?

18 DIY hunts....11 dead bulls. All on public land up to 340". It's a pace and pride thing. I hate following anyone. After all of these years, my elk partners/buddies are always on my 6....I've never known anything else. Lastly, I'd rather find/harvest a 320" on my own than kill a 350" with a...

    Unit 27 Late Elk-Packer with horse/mule?

Quick Question/Reference: Are there any local folks in Alpine who would be willing to pack out a quartered elk during late Nov? I have 14 points going into the 2024 draw. I may draw it. I'm also thinking about paying the hunter's ed course fees....then with 15 points I think I'm pretty good. Im...

    NM 52

ATV isn't mandatory, but I would always have one with me. They're cold to operate in the morning, but if the roads are in bad shape, you'll be glad you have one.

    NM 52

Yeah, I've seen 1 bull over 310" in 10 years of hunting 52. Our biggest have always been in that 300-305" range. And since I watched that bull in my spotter for over an hour, I got to see him from every angle. He was a legit 350". And of course I have buddies who I trust that have also...

Unit 52/53 2nd Antelope MZ tag?

Yeah, up high may make the spot and stalk a bit easier. We've elk hunted 52 for 10 consecutive years, so it should be fun. down low sounds like a recipe for spooked goats and rattlesnakes to me.

Unit 52/53 2nd Antelope MZ tag?

Well, my buddy and I joined as in group application for Elk, but split solo for the Antelope and Deer draws due to a lack of NR tags available. The lucky devil drew a goat tag. Any thoughts for this 2nd Aug hunt with open sites? secondly, I hate snakes. Are rattlesnakes around that country...

    Wyoming bound!

I'm looking in Cody, Dubois, and Pinedale/Daniel area. I'd rather be north of Cody so I can use the Billings airport however...which is so much cheaper and easy to use.
