As long as you are not riding horses get some Neo Navigator 5 overboots and just wear them over your favorite hiking boots. My feet never get cold and i can hike in them all day. Light weight and way cheaper than new hiking boots.

The .243 is plenty of gun. I have killed many deer with a .223, and never wounded one that got away. The most important thing should always be shot placement and discipline. Just use good slugs. I want to get one for my kids to use for their first couple years of hunting.

These are from my elk hunt in 2009, the bulls were from this fall, and the lions were this spring at over 2 miles through my scope.

I am shooting hand loads with 165 Hornady SST's, kills everything I hit. I love my rifle it is my favorite caliber, and I feel confident with it out to a long ways(can't say how far someone on here will accuse you of being unethical). Do some hand loading and you will find a round that works...
