NM DRAW SUCCESS 6C and 36 Elk

That's about what I figured. I'm so fortunate that my wife and I both drew tags this year.

NM DRAW SUCCESS 6C and 36 Elk

Nice! I don't see enough bears in my life. Amost always when I'm hunting deer or elk, but that's not often enough. My cabin is "Bear Watch," so perhaps it is mean't to be. I'm looking forward to Ruidoso, Unit 36. I'm sure I'll see bears in unit 6C, Jemez.

NM DRAW SUCCESS 6C and 36 Elk

I drew a muzzleloader tag for Elk in unit 6C. I have hunted it once before, however, did not harvest. I'm looking forward to another attempt. Also, my wife drew a cow elk rifle tag in unit 36. December 9-13. Looks like an amazing opportunity. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a...

    Unit 17 Elk 2nd Muzzleloader

Sounds great! I agree about the numbers being down. Perhaps they go elsewhere when it's that dry. No rain in the fall is very unusual for NM. I too had a blast! I should have focused all of my time on the lower elevations, the rolling hills, with Pinon and Juniper. I had a nice bull in...

    NM 17 Muzzleloader Oct 17-21

Well, while it was a very nice hunt, I did not score. Most Bulls were taking solitude in the steep and deep. I did have a very nice 7X7 cross in front of my quad as I was relocating from the rolling hills of the P and J, to higher terrain. He was with ~7 or 8 cows and a couple of young...

thanks for all of your responses. No, I haven't found water. I will do some scouting two days prior to the hunt. Best of luck to everyone this year! I will reply with a report and with any luck, a nice photo of a Bull!

    NM 17 Muzzleloader Oct 17-21

I scouted unit 17 just after the archery hunt, but it was hot and windy. I didn't see any activity down in the flats. I'm looking for some tips on how to hunt this unit in October. I drew the first muzzle loader, which starts October 17. It looks like I will get some cooler weather. Any...

NM Unit 17 Muzzleloader Oct 17-21

This was the first time I put in for this unit. I had never been there until this summer. My first impression was, "where the heck are the Elk going to be besides way up there?" I'm also hearing that I can find elk in odd places. I'm hoping to find a good bull in the lower lands. I'm...

I hope she gets one too! I'm willing to bet they will still be rutting for the Youth hunt. Best of luck and congrats!

Agreed on the all that! It is hotter than hell here right now. I didn't see any activity in the lower areas. Elk are still way up high. The burn scars are amazing! The area was somewhat wet this last weekend. I'm in Rio Rancho, just North of ABQ. We have been really hot and dry this year...

Cool! I can pass down some information to you if you want it. I have been scouting and I'm really liking what I see! This looks like a really good opportunity. Good Luck. I'll let you know how my hunt goes and what I find.

Thanks for the note! I scouted this last weekend before the archery hunt got started. Met some really nice hunters up there. I see what you mean about getting steep quick! I plan hunt the flats and the P and J. I also saw 2 big bulls up top of Whithington. This looks like a great...
